Former Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway bridge over the River Esk used by the 3ft gauge line, Gill Force. Saturday 31 May 2014

In 1880 a branch off the Ravenglass & Eskdale railway from near Beckfoot to Gill Force iron ore mine was opened. In 1913 the iron ore mines were not producing anywhere near an economical volume for the 3ft gauge railway to survive and it closed.

Between 1915 and 1917 the R&ER line to Boot was converted from the 3ft gauge to 15ins and it reopened in various stages. However the long climb around the back of the miners’ cottages at Dalegarth to Boot station proved too much for the small locomotives and in the autumn of 1918 the service was cut back to Beckfoot. In 1922 the line was extended again along a short section of the former branch to Gill Force mine with a new terminus in front of the Dalegarth cottages, in 1926 it was extended to the present terminus adjacent to the north side of the valley road, the line south of the road was never reopened.

After painting a few figs and not liking the result I decided to blow money on some quality paint this time using "Games Workshop" paints.

Colors used:

Bestial Brown, Chaos Black, Camo Green, Blazing Orange, Boltgun Metal, and Golden Yellow.

I had filed down the joints on this fig to make him posable, but with the several layers of yellow, only his shoulders move without ruining his paint job...Yellow is such a bitch to paint over dark colors.

This Beachhead is painted based on the colors from the actual Tiger Force figs released in 1988. Its more specificaly based on Sky-Strikers colors. The term "Variant" is from the fact that when I first painted him he had a green vest, but I went more traditional with the black and red. I do like the green I just like this one better :)

Flying low over the moorland, two Chinooks support a land attack by Jackal 2 assault vehicles. After the target was secured, the Chinooks touched down, and the special operations forces embarked again, flying back to their base at RAF Leeming in North Yorkshire.

Conducted over two weeks in January 2026, Exercise HYPERION STORM is a validation exercise for the Task Groups who will be under the command of the Special Operations Command Centre (SOCC).

After two years of intensive preparation and training, including the building of a new NATO Joint Operations Headquarters, the UK is ready to lead the NATO Allied Reaction Force (ARF) Special Operations Component. Growing in complexity, the rigorous training has built on the skills required for Special Operations to ensure they are fully interoperable with NATO partners.

Unique in that it commands a Joint Special Operations Force (SOF) of Maritime, Land and Air task groups, the Special Operations Component Command (SOCC) was successfully validated in Norway by the NATO Special Operations Forces Command Evaluation team. Ex Hyperion Storm is a validation exercise for the Task Groups that will be under the command of the SOCC.

It requires the Special Operations Maritime Task Group (SOMTG), the Special Operations Land Task Group (SOLTG) and the Special Operations Air Task Group (SOATG) to be tested on their core skills: Special reconnaissance (SR); Direct Action (DA) and Military Assistance (MA).

In addition to these UK Task Groups, the SOCC will command a Spanish Special Operations Land Task Group.

It is very comprehensive, the Hong Kong Police Force has a highly organised structure.

All Hong Kong Police Vehicles use the AM licence plate ie 2 digits and up to 4 numbers | Police vehicles have different colours, normal Police vehicles are white with red and blue stripes, the Police Traffic Division vehicles are white with yellow and blue checkerboard design.

Amazingly the Police Force have their own superstitions as well, the majority of the licence plates on Police Vehicles have lucky number combinations involving the numbers 6,8, and 9 ! Basically 6 means easy life, 8 means wealth and 9 means long life - this is very much Hong Kong Culture. The Police also use unmarked vehicles extensively which are NOT identified by the AM mark.

The Police Museum at 27 Coombe Road at the Peak is also worth a visit, see details on the website listed above.

These dark force themed images were required of me by Jedi mind games. I was completed to give in to the glamour of the dark side. Again and again I let black dominate the frame as I subtly lit the dark force.

Rangers are all airborne-qualified, and are trained in wilderness survival and counter-insurgency. Specializing in deep penetration missions behind enemy lines, they stay undetected whenever possible as they call in artillery and airstrikes, conduct recon, and sabotage enemy installations. If they do their job right, the enemy won't even know they were there at all.
