I made Parisian Macarons from Dorie Greenspan's Baking Chez Moi (also in Dorie's Cookies as just "Macarons"). The sugar syrup method and not having to worry about deflating the egg whites makes this more foolproof but more work with the whole 243-245°F thing.

Frogged the skull socks, started a new fair isle pattern (this one more thorough and foolproof, no room for interpretation). The foot will be gray. I'm going to try and work in some fair isle into the foot just for interest. (the pattern has a one color foot under the fair isle cuff).

I went downtown this morning after dropping Alice off at school. We did a trial run on the city bus, and it turns out there is a stop on the route that is one block away from the school and right by some crossing guards, so in the dead of winter Alice has a foolproof and mostly warm way to school, and Eli will get to ride the bus, his favorite thing in the world.
I needed to get Jacelyn the correct violin workbook and drop it off at her school. While there I got a Pumpkin Spice Latte, an overpriced sandwich, a book for me, a drawing pad and square pencils (for Jacelyn, on sale) and a book of dinosaur facts for Alice.
I got downtown at 9:30 and got home at 12:30. One thing taking the bus has taught me? Slow down, you have plenty of time. It can be equally frustrating and beneficial at the same time. At the end of the day I am STILL glad we have decided not to own a car.
