There're several dozen checkmate patterns that are named. This one, also known as two-move mate, is delivered in the fewest moves possible, dark queen has white king in checkmate.

Game over. It was fun. Now go away :-)

This one particular cherry tree always blooms when there are a few days of warm weather in the winter. I have seen it bud out several times before spring actually arrives, and it usually gets fooled by Mother Nature. This time it must have been very surprised. In Dublin Park in Madison, Alabama

Big Danbo invited Little Danbo to the park today for a picnic but never showed up. Apparently, it was one big April Fool's Day joke. Tsk, tsk.

What do you suggest Little Danbo do to get back at him? Leave a suggestion in the comments and the best one I'll use in the follow up photo to this one. Be as creative as possible.

Life is not easy. After a hard day's work, endless house chores meet you at home. What do you think would a douse of cold water do to a tired and aching body?

Happy April Fools' Day, everyone!... have a great holiday!

The localizing of fools is common to most countries, and there are many other reputed imbecile centres in different countries. In the Netherlands it is (among others) the people of Kampen, were a "Kamper onion" is a name for spot and plague story in which the pretensions and stupidity of its residents are depicted.

I was so lucky. The very day that I was visiting the Bonnet House in Fort Lauderdale happened to be the very day that the very rare monkey face orchid was blooming. It only blooms for 24 hours every decade!

Okay so most of the facts are true. I WAS at the Bonnet House in Florida this week, formerly owned by the late Frederic and Evelyn Bartlett. They had quite a sense of art and whimsy which was reflected in the way that they decorated their winter home. Two of Mrs. Bartlett's favourite things were orchids and monkeys. Many of the orchids have been removed over the past few months because of disease but this lovely vanda orchid did survive and of the about 30 monkeys that Mrs. Bartlett kept on the property only 2 still survive. I was lucky enough to see one of them in the trees while I was there.

I decided that the best April's Fool photo would be to combine her two loves.....

I hope that her sense of whimsy would be tickled by the result.

HMM.

Keeping the subject in frame can be very difficult when you are shooting a fast subject, very close, and hand holding 1200 mm. Thousandths of a second can make all the difference. Trying to predict the unpredictable is always challenging but nature photography requires, at least, a bit of this. After all is said and done, nothing replaces persistence and luck. Hence, the more you shoot, the better your chances at getting “that shot.”

Like the bald eagle, the peregrine falcon was nearly eradicated from this earth by the use of DDT. The eagle gained more notoriety, as the symbol of the USA but it was not the only bird to suffer. We are currently in the hands of an administration that sees no limits to the destruction of our wild places in the name of profit. If you support Trump but claim to be pro-nature, then you are either wearing blinders or simply fooling yourself. You’re not fooling me. #PeregrineFalcon

Well you pass around the pipe and you all get high

Never even stop and wonder why

Maybe it’s because you wanna die

Maybe it’s just the way things have to be

You stay up late and drink too damn much whiskey

You know that sort of thing is kind of risky

Maybe it’s just because you like to feel frisky

Maybe it’s just because you like to feel free

Saddle Tramp

How many people watch you ridin’ by

Like a thunder cloud that floats

Across the Arizona sky

And wonder if they’re looking

At a mighty happy man

Or just a lonely breeze that drifts

Across the endless desert sand

Well it’s gettin’ kinda cold in Ruidoso

Abilene ain’t gettin’ any closer

One more drink, one more hand of poker

‘Cause a fool and his money’s

Gonna have to part

You’re too proud to ever show your sorrow

You don’t steal and you won’t beg or borrow

You may be here today but you’re gone tomorrow

There ain’t no strings on your boot heels

Or your heart

Saddle Tramp

How many people watch you ride away

Wonder why you never promise

To come back some day

Maybe thinking you were holding

All the pieces in your hand

Or are they slippin’ through your fingers

Like the endless desert sand

.....

On the way to work today I saw the car of someone who has some dedicated friends.

Good job...

Cheers.

We walked past this one thinking it was a model, my wife looked back at some flowers and saw it move he was quite happy to be pictured but then again he was perched above the carp pond.

And they spent their life in search of

DONALD

Who Played with a Dangerous Toy,

and Suffered a Catastrophe of Considerable Dimensions

(Apologies, profuse and profound, to Hilaire Belloc

whose immortal words are used here

in a context he never intended for them.)

*****

When Donald's Chief of Staff was told

That Don had been as good as gold,

He promised in the afternoon

To buy him an Immense BALLOON.

And so he did; but when it came,

It got into the candle flame,

And being of a dangerous sort

Exploded with a loud report!

The lights went out! The windows broke!

The Oval Office filled with smoke.

And in the darkness shrieks and yells

Were mingled with electric bells,

And falling masonry and groans,

And crunching, as of broken bones,

And dreadful shrieks, when, worst of all,

The White House then began to fall!

It shook, as older houses do,

Before it met its Waterloo

In Pennsylvania Avenue.

When help arrived, among the dead

Were fair Ivanka, and Jared,

The T-Men (both of them), the fools

Who guard the money laundry tools,

Poor Stormy, the new “Upstairs Maid”,

And I am dreadfully afraid

That Signore Boy-ar-Dee, the Chef,

Has lost his cousin, Little Chef.

Melania has come up lame,

While Don, who won’t accept blame,

Receives, as everybody knows,

Kudos everywhere he goes.

Moral:

The moral is that little boys

Should play with more expensive toys.
