Ok Flickr, seriously? Every day something new breaks. This site is becoming unusable. Two words: Change Control.
Anyway, if I can survive this new Flickr gauntlet, there's some landscape stuff on the horizon - no pun intended. I've had a 50mm Zeiss T/S franken-lens for two years and never made a photograph with it before today. It was nice to get out and enjoy the solitude of this kind of shooting, in spite of a few mishaps and sub-freezing temps...
Proverbs 1:22 “How long, O naive ones, will you love simplicity? And scoffers delight themselves in scoffing, And fools hate knowledge?”
“There is no greater evil one can suffer than to hate reasonable discourse.” – Socrates
What happens when reasonable discourse is censored by an increasingly authoritarian system? During Covid, they said, “Follow the science.” Yet, as with climate change, a person can only have one side to the story. Nowadays, some scientists are even afraid to define a biological woman. Have we gone from science to cult? What about communist-style hate-speech laws for “misgendering” someone?
Does censorship encourage or stifle reasonable discourse? Does censorship encourage or stifle free thinking? Does censorship encourage or stifle critical thinking? Does censorship encourage or stifle freedom of speech? Does censorship encourage or stifle freedom?

Oliver Stretton-Pow: 'Infrastructure: Ship of Fools'.
Artist brief: I am interested in the dialogue that this apparently incongruous hybrid of science fiction, history and materiality presents. The narrative is fragmented or pixelated much like the surface of the work allowing endless interpretive entry and exit points.
If there is truth in the old adage, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.” where does that leave the team of Hendricks and Patchett?
We have been deliberately trying to fool people with our photographic sleight of hand for almost three years now. If you are still being fooled by this wizardry, then shame on you. (wink wink)
There is an irresistible duality to the visual trickery going on in this image. We hope you find it interesting.
This is a double forced perspective photograph of die-cast model cars, real cars and a real hand in front of a real background.

Many people are fooled into thinking this furry little creature is a bee (in flight, it is even more bee-like as it produces a high-pitched buzz), and that it's long sharp proboscis makes it dangerous!
Social media sites often get many posts containing pictures of this insect, often captioned with ‘what is this?’ or ‘what type of bee is this?’, and the Natural History Museum is frequently asked to help people identify these little creatures that fool people so often! www.nhm.ac.uk/discover/news/2014/april/bee-flies-false-wi...
In fact this little creature is a Bee-fly (The Dark-edged Bee-fly - Bombylius major), a bee mimic fly whose proboscis is used for drinking nectar and it is completely harmless to humans!
However, it is parasitic on solitary mining bees and bumblebees, and lays its eggs in the nests of its hosts. It does this by hovering over nests or burrows and dropping or flicking their eggs into the nest. Before they deposit the eggs, they coat them in soil or dust. This adds weight to the eggs and may also be a form of camouflage. Once the larvae hatch, they crawl further into the nest/burrow and feed on mature bee larvae, eventually killing them. Another way in which this little creature is an April fool!

For Macro Mondays: I Fooled You!
"Beautiful little fools
That’s what us girls are destined for
Beautiful little fools
Born to be adored
Where is the feminine race?
Where are these so-called independent women?
Who pick up their flaws
And let the world in
Where are these girls?"
