Don’t let the nice weather #Fool you…

It is not exactly a summer day at the beach yet…

Water temperature is around 39F, winds are blowing making the air temp feel cool, and the lake is choppy with waves…

But it is a good day for a walk…

It seems the gulls think so too… ;-)

Hello my amazing Flickr friends !!

Today is a red day at Color My World Daily and the theme at Macro Mondays is April fools. In my opinion a fish must be part of an April fools picture on this Photostream. That is why, I decided to go with Red Lady and her incredible April fools catch . A fish sooooo big that it was bigger than the boat… and even bigger than Red Lady herself. Of course, this enormous April fools fish was catch using a retractable harpoon that Red Lady always has in her purse… it is usually next to a bottle of Sherry she likes to carry with her on her fishing trips or any other trip as well… To catch a fish that big is quite an achievement… and of course sometimes the fish gets bigger and bigger each time the story is told. This way the fish might end up being quite large , but in this case we have a picture to prove it !! And I hope this picture will fool you in believing everything in my narrative ;-) !

Mucho, mucho amor for you my friends !!

Thank you so much for all your lovely comments / favs/ general support / happy thoughts!! Stay safe and well!! And see you soon on Flickr !

Ha. He says April Fools!

This is more of a picture in the making.

Again I didn't realise that I had set the ISO to 1000 when taking this, and I'm still kicking myself over it now.

The idea for this shot is very different to how I want it to be, but here's a little taste of it until I get what I want from this place.

Street Artist and reaction, Verona, Veneto, Italy. A photo for 1st April which is April Fool's Day around the world.

A month with one lens. Madness.

Close up of a bee orchid flower. If you see carefully, the dark part of the flower is shaped and coloured very much like a bee - in particular a female bee. This fools the male bees and they get onto the flower in a futile attempt to mate. This, however, serves the plant's purpose of pollination.

Macro Mondays theme Iron

Fools gold is a common name given to iron pyrite which is a sulfide mineral of iron. It has a wonderfully lustrous surface which is great at reflecting light.

I had two lights pointing at this nugget, one from the top right and one from the bottom left - to try to minimise the shadows cast by the first light. I quite liked the reflections and colours it produced.

I took this this morning but then ran out of time to post and have been struggling to catch up eversince. Now I can sit down and admire everyone elses lovely images!

The width of frame here is just under 4cm.

Happy Macro Monday! 😊

The temperature when I snapped this image of UP's Tuesday transfer job was +43F, nearly 60 degrees warmer than what I was shooting in Sunday morning. Unseasonably warm days at the front end of winter can lull us into thinking we will have a mild season. The fact my fingers are just now thawing out from this past weekend suggests otherwise. A clipper system will bring a couple inches of snow tomorrow so we will still be in good shape for a white Christmas.

Follie di un sultano

There's so many different worlds

So many different suns

And we have just one world

But we live in different ones

Now the sun's gone to hell

And the moon's riding high

Let me bid you farewell

Every man has to die

But it's written in the starlight

And every line in your palm

We're fools to make war

On our brothers in arms

April Fools’ Day (April 1st) is a long-standing tradition of playing practical jokes and hoaxes—but its exact origin is surprisingly unclear. Historians have a few strong theories:

Early Possible Origins

1. Calendar Change Theory (France, 1500s)**

One popular explanation links it to the adoption of the **Gregorian calendar adoption** in 1582.

Before this, many people celebrated New Year around late March–April 1.

When the new calendar moved New Year’s Day to January 1, some people either didn’t know or resisted the change.

Those who kept celebrating in April were mocked and called “April fools.”

---

2. Ancient Roman & Medieval Festivals**

Some traditions resemble April Fools’ Day:

The Roman festival **Hilaria** (late March) involved disguises and jokes.

Medieval European festivals like the “Feast of Fools” also featured role reversals and playful mischief.

These suggest that the spirit of prank-playing in spring predates the modern holiday.

---

The Spread Across Europe

By the 1700s, April Fools’ Day was widely celebrated in different countries:

Scotland: Known as “Huntigowk Day,” where people were sent on silly errands.

France: Victims were called *poisson d’avril* (“April fish”), and paper fish were stuck on people’s backs.

England: Pranks traditionally only lasted until noon.

---

Modern April Fools’ Day

In the 20th and 21st centuries, it evolved into a global event:

Newspapers, TV, and websites publish fake stories.

Famous hoaxes include the **BBC**’s 1957 “spaghetti tree” broadcast.

Companies and brands now participate with elaborate (sometimes convincing) prank announcements.

---

Why It Endures

April Fools’ Day persists because it:

* Encourages humour and creativity

* Breaks social norms (temporarily!)

* Is simple—anyone can take part

Warm sunset on a frozen lake – I took this sunset photo at Fools Hollow Lake State Park. I loved how the ice has melted in sections giving a zigzag shape to the water and I though the warm glow of the sunset left a nice contrast to the cold water and ice.

The technical: Shot on a Nikon D810 paired with a Tamron 70-200 zoomed to 165. ISO125 f/20 for 1/13th of a second. I zoomed in to compress the photo a little and draw more attention on the ice.
