She's passed on now, been a while. She would have been thirty today. We never had kids. She always said to me that she wanted to wait til she was thirty to have kids. Two of them. She loved her career too much, I gathered. No, I knew. I always told her that it won't really matter how financially ready we were to have a baby, it was just something we had to experience, to fall into. We never got that chance. I still believe I would have been a great father, even though I never really had a proper "blood" father figure. My best friend's dad, was my father figure for the most part. So when my wife and I discussed having kids, I knew I would always be there for them - because I wanted to provide for them something I never had. That love.
It's a tormenting fact that as I grow older, I'm slowly withering away the chance to become a first time father. I see all these dudes around with their kids and I weep internally, because I know - while they might not show it - they really are the luckiest men alive. To have a child. Anyway, I don't weep for my lost wife anymore. I just...wonder, what could have been, you know?

The joy was palpable. Alex has a chicken and bean burrito with chipotle sauce. I have papas fritas: hash browns sauced with red chile sauce and served with cheese, eggs, and some beans. It's the kind of breakfast that makes you sorry you eat cereal most of the rest of the time.
