This chimney stands across a courtyard from the old paper mill at Withnell Fold. It was built by Thomas Blinkhorn Parke, the local landowner who lived in nearby Withnell Hall, at the same time the mill was built, in 1844.
Inspired by the MAD-magazine, I designed a t-shirt a few years ago for
the Darmstadt Junior Branch: Sherlock and the silly cat don't know
what the heck is going on until they discover the sign...so if you
fold the shirt, you can actually (almost) read CISV. The shirt was
available in blue and green. Cheers, Nick

I held a series of three sessions at KPF NY demonstrating severals ways to transform a flat single sheet of paper into a complex form. I demonstrated folds that used both standard origami techniques (square paper, no cutting) and more modern approaches (laser-cut and -scored curves). The square forms date back to the Bauhaus movement and I was inspired by the work I did for Erik and Marty Demaine when choosing the shapes of the curved forms. Special thanks also to Alex Soijka who helped with the video.
The beautiful folded hills of Marlborough present the photographer with some amazing light effects especially in high summer when the light is low (sunset or sunrise). The dry, sunburned slopes of golden brown grasses reflect the light becoming a burnished wheaten gold. The deep folded valleys contrast with the sunlit tops to give a dramatic effect.

We made the latest issue of Bicycling: "May 10th, Folds Up! Folding Bike Ride and Festival, New York City. Organizers say all kinds of bikes are welcome on this 10-mile ride through Manhattan and Brooklyn, as long as their riders are 'folding-curious.' The postride festival offers folder demos."
I am shocked, shocked! about this "folding-curious" business. It sounds downright naughty. More info about the ride and festival here.
