Multiple-exposure HDR panorama of fog rolling over the Golden Gate Bridge, taken a few days ago.
I'm experimenting with using the 50mm 1.8 D prime lens to do all of my panorama work, instead of using a wide angle for this type of shot, as I did before. At the cost of needing to take more time to compose and capture the shot, there is an absolutely staggering increase in detail and resolution to this method.
Firstly, because that little $130 lens is drastically sharper than any wide angle I know of, including the multi-thousand dollar Zeiss lenses.
Secondly, because when you generate a panorama, you're creating a higher megapixel master image that can be cropped down any way you choose. In the case of this picture, the actual size of the master file is over 200 megapixels. And it already starts to lose detail shrinking it to 150 megapixels.
Coming from the old 18-200mm DX lens on the D200, results like this are absolutely staggering, and pushing into the realm of Large Format cameras. The detail visible here on Flickr is not even close to the original file.
This panorama was generated from 9 sets of 5-exposures each, though HDR data was only used extremely selectively - there was enough dynamic range in the original RAW files to make it unnecessary, save for artistic effect.
I love hiking and taking photos when there's fog around. It makes everything so interesting!!!
Thanks for taking a look! I hope everyone has a wonderful week!

I took 2500 at the Grand Canyon. Maybe I am getting close to the 10000 mark.
A biker walks through the pea-soup thick fog in Coronation Park on Toronto's waterfront during a heavy Spring fog.
I could not have wished for better weather conditions for photographing this guy. I really like how the black plumage stands out against the white fog in the background.
