Today's macro photos in the garden all make use of in-camera focus stacking, which really shows the detail that would be hard to see with the naked eye.

Focus stack merge of 145 images. Processed in Helicon Focus and Nik Color Efex Pro 4 (Pro Contrast, Tonal Contrast, Low Key, and Detail Extractor).

Close-up photo of a double-sided quarter inch by twenty thumbscrew. Created from 50 images shot at ISO 64, 25mm, f/5.6 and 1/15th of a second exposure. Camera used was a Nikon D850 with the Laowa 25mm Ultra Macro Lens set to 2.5X magnification. Focus stacking was processed in Helicon Focus with method B (depth map) and then finishing touches were done in Adobe Lightroom.

I thought it is too big for focusing so I shoot six pictures changing focus spot, and focus stacked by "Combine ZP" a free software.

Probably Bugula neritina. The Eelgrass, Zostera marina, was quite old, ~7mm across. Bryozoan extended 30 mm from eelgrass.

Morro Bay, California

Bryozoans are miniature animals that nearly all live colonially, so the tiny organisms share this structure somewhat like a group of corals do. This one is a common fouling organism on boat hulls and harbor installations. (Intertidal Invertebrates of California, Morris et. al.) I had originally thought this was an epiphytic (one that grows on another) seaweed, but was straightened out by my friend who wants to remain anonymous.
