"Could some one please tell the pilot to fly a lot lot higher?...about another 5.000 feet would be fine with me...Thank you."

Taken over the Alps last September.

EXPLORED #14 July 13 2009. Thanks a lot! :)

EI-DVM " Saint Colman turns onto runway 10 at Dublin bound for Malaga, Spain as EI 584.

On this day, Spain & Portugal suffered a total shutdown of their power grids, with many flights cancelled, airports operator Aena kept going throughout the disruption with the aid of generators.

EI-DVM was delivered to Aer Lingus in March 2011 in a blaze of fanfare to celebrate the airlines 75 years in service.

Becherovka. Invented by Czech pharmacist Jan Becher.

Possibly the most vile alcoholic beverage in the world.

Photo from last night's OffShoot meeting.

According to the museum dedicated to the secrets of Becher's witches' brew:

" It has been 200 years since the Becherovka recipe first saw the light of day, or to be more precise the gloom of the Becher pharmacy in the House of the Three Skylarks (U tří skřivanů) in Karlovy Vary. The museum is part of the production plant that replaced the original pharmacy approximately 150 years ago. The guided tour includes a visit to the original cellars and some of the production premises. Some places, on the other hand, are strictly off-limits. For example, the "Drogikamr" room has only ever been entered by the anointed few. Behind its bolted doors, experienced hands gather several times a year to weigh the precise amounts of dried flowers, leaves, bark and ground root in order to carefully mix the fragrant blend of twenty herbs and spices that forms the basis of the future liqueur."

Wikipedia puts it more succinctly: "cinnamon flavored kerosene, only worse".

A black and white edit of an old photo I took in Cardiff Bay. The focus is a bit soft but I still love the image and arrangement of the Gull's wings.

"He flies through the air with the greatest of ease". I came across a motocross event in Yesnaby while exploring south of the Skara Brae prehistoric site along the west coast of Orkney, Scotland. It was a chance for me to practice a little 'sports' photography. Motocross and motorcycle touring are a very popular, but highly noisy, sport in the northern islands and the car ferry I came north on had dozens and dozens of motorbikes below decks.

Pigeons here in our local area are becoming a real nuisance as they fly around looking for a place to land and sit on balconies and lay their eggs to be hatched, usually behind some corner. We had such problem last year and it took months before the 2 chicks left and we could clean the balcony with a heavy powered house as they make such a mess.

I did this for my grandson a number of years ago. My oldest son emailed me the shot of his son, Shane catching some air while sledding. I happened to remember a shot that I had taken a few years earlier of a Grizzly Bear standing up in a snowy field with its paws raised. So, with a limited knowledge of PhotoShop, I was able to combine the two shots and come up with this one. I thought it was pretty funny and Scott and his son liked it to. Normally, I don’t do people pictures, but, I figured maybe it was time to give everyone a chuckle! ;-)

Flying eastward towards Atlanta, then curving around for a landing. I usually get some vivid sunrise shots this time of year, but this one has the added bonus of rays over the horizon!

Kerry 1-24 Dublin 1-07

Well done Kerry from a Sydney Silver Gull. Could not find a swam!

(For those who do not know one of the players was a Syndey Swan ie played football in Australia)

This bird is flying high as are all Kerry supporters this evening. I know they are only through to the semi-finals but we were worried!

No doubt Dublin will be back (as will the Roscommon minors). Kerry minors had to fight hard to win. Well done to them too.

sometimes, emotions make you fly)

These birds of prey look similar to Eagles, until you get a close up and see the red beaks. Eagles generally do not fly in large groups. These vultures were flying over our buildings, very high and I counted 7 in all, someone said there were 8. I could not get them all into one photo.

These seagulls in flight look so ethereal, I thought that one of the song/music tracks called Etheric Messages(as background music) from one of my most favourite aritst Natacha Atlas would be perfect. (Maktub - meaning 'it is written' or it's destiny) - the track might be an acquired taste for some : )).
