A lovely metallic long-legged fly (Condostylus sp.) found in Phu Quoc, Vietnam.

One difference with these compared to most other flies is the long thin antennae.

When shooting with an E-TTL flash, the unit fires a short pre-flash to measure how much light is needed and then instantaneously take the shot together with the proper flash level. These guys are so jumpy that they take off when the pre-flash fires so you have to use manual flash or else you only get empty shots as they get out of frame before the actual exposure is taken.

Happy New Year.....

I had Monday off from work and I took advantage of the time by going down to the Ravines to check on the Eagles. Four of us were down by the Grand River waiting for this Eagle to leave the Sycamore tree and head to the nest. I almost missed the shot due to too much talking amongst the group.

First flight shot of the eagles since mid September, way to long.

“What is it to discover you have wings?

What is it to be afraid of your wings?

What is it to discover at the end of your life that you had wings and never flew?

What is it to find out that you were hidden from yourself?

What is it to be forgotten?

Each day we are forgotten by ourselves

through ourselves,

For we do not believe, in who we are.”

No idea which fly though - Happy Fly Day Friday!

I think this may be a Bluebottle fly (Calliphora vomitoria) its a horrible name to have.

This little chap was sunning itself whilst I took this image, it just stayed there having a bit of a clean-up and didn't seem bothered by the camera!

Good job that I wasn't a spider!

2/19/2022 WWII Trainers, guess they were enjoying a beautiful day here in Dallas. Always recognize their distinctive sound, so I was able to get out and get a shot.
