A return 4 day trip to RSPB Bempton on the 5th June with 3 Photo buddies. The weather was very cold for June, very unexpected.
Day 3
Onshore wind, Brighter, but still bitterly cold in the wind.
The Northern Gannet on the left shows the distinctive Black Eye that occurs on Gannets that have caught Avian Bird Flu but have survived. The Gannet on the right has the normal Eye.
It is not known if the Black Eye will return to normal over time.
Avian Flu, or Bird Flu, affects poultry and wild birds.
The current outbreak is of Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI), which can cause severe disease and high mortality. This current strain has been devastating our wild bird populations in the UK since November 2021. It originated in poultry operations in China in 1996.
The most recent series of Bird Flu outbreaks ( 2022-2023 ) is unprecedented – the largest ever in the UK and worldwide – and has killed tens of thousands of birds in the UK alone.
This beautiful Gannet floats eyes closed unaware of its surroundings. It is probably hours from death having contracted avian flu. If this bird were in full health you wouldn't be able to get within 20 meters of her before she flew away. Avian Flu is running riot in the South West and I am seeing increasing numbers of poorly , dying birds on a daily basis.

Cochem an der mittleren Mosel gelegen ist ein Ziel für jeden Moseltouristen , ob mit den Schiff. dem Auto, Bus Bahn oder Fahrrad.
Die erste Nachricht von Cochem, dessen Geschichte in keltischer, römischer und frühmittelalterlicher Zeit sich im Dunkeln verliert, gibt eine Urkunde der Abtei Prüm vom 20. XII. 866.
Etwa um das Jahr 1000, so wird allgemein angenommen, wurde unter Pfalzgraf Ezzo, Sohn und Nachfolger von Pfalzgraf Hermann Pusillius, die Burg Cochem erbaut. Urkundlich ist die Burg erstmals 1051 erwähnt. Auch nachdem die Ezzonen die Pfalzgrafenwürde verloren, blieb Cochem mit der Pfalzgrafschaft verbunden. Einem späteren Streit um die Pfalzgrafenwürde machte König Konrad III im Jahr 1151 ein Ende, indem er die Burg Cochem mit Burgmannen besetzte und als erledigtes Reichslehen endgültig in seine Gewalt brachte.
Damit wurde die Burg Cochem während der Zeit, als die Staufer in Deutschland herrschten, eine Reichsburg. Nun wurden Reichsministeriale – mit dem Titel Burggraf – für die Verwaltung von Burg und Reichsbesitz eingesetzt.
Als im Pfälzischen Erbfolgekrieg Truppen des französischen Königs Ludwig XIV, genannt der Sonnenkönig, in das Rhein- und Moselland eindrangen, wurde 1688 auch die Burg Cochem besetzt. Nachdem im März 1689 die ganze Stadt von französischen Truppen besetzt worden war, wurde die Burg am 19. Mai 1689 in Brand gesteckt, unterminiert und gesprengt.
Die Reste des spätgotischen Bauwerkes blieben fester Bestandteil der wiedererrichteten Burg, die – im neugotischen Stil erbaut – den romantischen Vorstellungen des 19. Jahrhunderts entsprach. Die wiederhergestellte Burg diente der Familie Ravené als Sommersitz und blieb 75 Jahre lang im Familienbesitz.
Die Reichsburg Cochem ist seit 1978 im Besitz der Stadt Cochem, auf einem markanten Bergkegel mehr als 100 Meter über dem Wasserspiegel der Mosel gelegen,

I've got a case of the man-flu, so rather than drag myself out with the camera on a cold Sunday I thought I'd go back through the 2014 archives to see what was missed. This is one from back in March.
** It seems that Jian Ni caught the flu from me. Today I met her surrounded by tea, pills, drops and lots of kleenex. :/ The blanket was a gift from my dear friend Joana Costa and it is very comfortable in this rainy and windy days. I hope that your weekend will be better than ours. :) **
Man flu, a cold I guess by any other name, but an inconvenience. I'm at the back end of one and frankly I've manned up and got through it. I applaud myself

Bempton
Went up the rock yesterday to take photos of the sunset.
Somehow one of the seagulls got really angry and started to attack me. He didn't touch me but flew round over round very close, even using some good ol' dogfight taktics like attacking with the sun behind him.
Well, didn't work on me, but I got some nice shots. This is my favorite one, capturing the excitement that was going on only a step away from a 400m drop.

Tuesday I was exposed to the hacking cough, fever, 2 weeks of misery, flu, and yesterday I woke up with a sore throat. This would be no big deal but Kerri is coming Sunday for a week.
Sooo, off to Blaze Pizza where they make your pizza to order as you go down a line of food items. This has spinach, basil, red onions, cherry tomatoes, cheese of course, and this is the secret ingredient - RAW GARLIC! No germ would dare exist in all the garlic I've consumed. Those little chopped bits of white are the garlic flu fighters.
Today is Friday and I'm feeling pretty good - keep your fingers crossed!
De repente fiquei com vontade de estreiar um esmalte flúor. Nunca tinha usado, achava escandaloso demais. E é mesmo! Escandalosamente lindo! (com excessão das minhas cutículas. Finja que não percebeu, tá?!? Nunca tiro em casa...) Dei um toque especial fazendo uma zebrinha no anelar direito.
