Camera+, 2 photos used for figure, 2 photos for trees & branches & a leaves photo. Processed using icolorama, procreate, Pixelmator, flowpaper & Lenslight.

This piece started out with some experiments I was doing in the mobile app icolorama with the brush tool. As I started getting this "Icey" look on the already manipulated figure I went with it. The figure itself was a compilation of two different mobile photos done in Procreate & iColorama. I then added the rest. The leaves, were altered in Procreate, birds from icolorama brush, Flowpaper for blue gauze effect, sparkles & some filtering from LensLight, the trees & limbs altered mostly in iColorama using the effects tool with blending.

This piece was inspired by my study of the painting 'Primavera' by Sandro Botticelli which can be seen as an elaborate mythological allegory of the burgeoning fertility of the world as shown in the spring wood nymph he painted. My idea was to show this allegory as a fall scene of a modern Wood Nymph who ruled over those who now sought her for protection over the upcoming winter worlds hazardous ways. Among those was Bird whose species was soon to die out unless Wood Nymph gave the few who remained her magical attention. Thus Bird is shown enticing Wood Nymph for her protections. With this story in mind I chose from a variety of mobile photos I had taken while also thinking of apps and processes to use. I put the chosen photos in a separate album in my photo app and started working from that album to pull the photos as I saw fit. I used superimpose to extract some of the elements from their background to create PNG files that I could add from. The wood nymphs face was put through facetune & reworked with another facial profile.. I worked back and forth in procreate and icolorama adding elements & effects as needed. Grunge HD was used to show a tear in the upper portion which was then overlapped onto the lower image and the whole reworked for linear aesthetic pause. I used flowpaper to create the blueish flowing forms coming from the birds feet to entice, encircle, the wood nymph and mirror the linear tear for emphasis. Many filters were used in combining images to get the best effects and a lot of masking in icolorama. Experimenting with my images in various apps is what fascinates me the most as so many different effects can be had and aesthetic choices made as the process grows.

I wanted to compose something etherial with this figure which was made from a couple of pro camera shots combined & then warped somewhat. I started with a blank canvas in iColorama. A background was added which is later somewhat removed. The figure was then superimposed & a rose added more as a center of interest. Flowpaper was used to add the veil like effects as was an iColorama grid pattern that follows the Flowpaper effects. The background was reworked by adding some watercolor effects using procreate & iColorama. Some tree limbs were included using a blending mode that made them appear white for more textural interest. Lastly I incorporated an overall warmer tone quality in iColorama.

Impermanence and change are the undeniable truths of our existence. What is real is the existing moment, the present that is a product of the past, or a result of the previous causes and actions. Because of ignorance, an ordinary mind conceives them all to be part of one continuous reality. But in truth they are not. Cellularly & molecularly our bodies totally replace themselves every 7 yrs. & as we age this process repeats an older molecular self. What remains the same is ones soul; you cannot escape your soul, that is, if you believe in a soul.

This piece speaks to its naming; ' The Wicked Webs We Weave'. The figure is a compilation of 4 different photos, main photo from a photo shoot with mobile photo group.

I wasn't sure I'd be able to take one self-portrait this year, let alone 52--and now I am just 2 away from completing my project. Thanks to all for your support this year. Looking forward to more selfies in 2012. (can't believe I am saying that)

This piece was inspired by the spontaneity and gestural action of abstract expressionism. I first turned the photo into a drawing in iColorama working on it further in Procreate where I applied areas of bright color. The image was then brought into Repix for much of the dripped & spattered brush effects. IColorama was then used to create a mixed up twirled effect for much of picture (Form>deform), the lettering & small flowers were then stamped on. Lastly I used Flowpaper for the white swirls & Lenslight for the bright round spots.
