This is the strangest tree with it's green, bulbous trunk stuck all over with thorns and then these wonderful flowers on top. The blossoms are the size of big orchids and are very attractive to bees.
I took this yesterday a block down the street.
I wanted to create a pink haze-like sea around the sharp focus of one flower. To me it looked like natures version of candy floss .

I love taking my son to the Fairground. Such fond memories of my childhood, and we share it together. The recent passing of my mate really hit home how important times like these are (not that I did not already have huge appreciate for this to start with). Time is so fleeting, and tomorrow is not guaranteed.
I shot this with a D200. Which is from 2006. You do not need a new camera...

Restaurant, Hanford, Ca.
Nothing says class more than walking into a restaurant with a flossing pick hanging from your mouth.

"I'd like to be a jelly fish
Cause jelly fish dont pay rent
They dont walk, they dont talk
With some euro-trash accents
They're just simple protoplasm
Clear as cellophane
They ride the winds of fortune
Life without a brain
In one ear and out the other
Dont you get criss-crossed
I recommend you try a little...
Mental floss"

Common name: Silk floss tree, Kapok, Floss silk tree, Resham rui (Hindi)
Botanical name: Chorisia speciosa Family: Bombacaceae (baobab family)
Floss Silk Tree is often rated among the most beautiful trees in the world. Also called Silk Floss Tree, this deciduous tropical from Brazil and Argentina is a large tree rated to over 40 feet. Floss Silk Tree is also well known for the large spikes protecting the trunk and limbs. It has pale green leaves palmately divided into 5-7 pointed leaflets. The young trees start out growing fast, straight, and narrow, then slowly develop broadly spreading umbrella canopies as they age. Silk floss trees typically drop their leaves just before they put on their spectacular autumn display of large five-petaled flowers. The petals vary from pale pink to rose to purple or burgundy at the tips and grade into ivory with brownish spots or blotches at the base. After blooming, pear shaped fruits appear which have a silky floss on the seeds, hence the name.
