Had a dentist appointment to get a broken screw removed from the implant I got oh about a year and a half ago.
After going through the ordeal of having a tooth pulled, and getting the screw system implanted in my gum (this involves gum surgery, a dead-people bone graft, stitches, and other unplesantries) I finally got the crown placed on the implant on Dec. 23 only for it to fall out a day later -- on Christmas Eve.
Turns out a screw had broken off in the implant - a rare occurance, but apparently not unheard of. Had never happened to my dentist though. Can't tell you how thrilled I was to provide a case for her.
So, the screw removal appointment involved my dentist, my periodontist and a representrative from the implant company. Fortunately, my periodontist was able to work the screw out without any more trauma.
New crown gets delivered in about 2 weeks when this whole episode should be done.
Just make sure you brush, floss and see your dentist regularly. Because dead-people bone in your gums is icky.

The Scavo Community Center is a realized dream shared by many stakeholders, sponsors and partners. There are some 25 of them listed on the sign that marks the entrance to not only the dental clinic, but a medical clinic too.
Representatives from Delta Dental and Mid-Iowa Health Foundation, the principal benefactors that made the dental clinic possible, were on hand to wield the giant scissors that made it official. So was Gentry, the first African-American elected to the Des Moines School Board and a long-time member of the Delta Dental and Mid-Iowa Health Foundation boards of directors.
