If you're designing a tight space it can be helpful to make a scale blueprint of the room and your furniture to get a basic idea. Especially if you are buying furniture. You can do this pretty easy in Photoshop or Illustrator. It's easier than moving furniture around, but of course, some things you just need to be in the room to see.

Sue and Heather (wife and SIL) study the floorplan at the National Gallery to try to find their way to the Rideau Chapel to listen to the motet.
There were two other people in the photo, but when they moved I snapped another photo and then used a layer mask in Photoshop to paint in the vacated spaces.
The photo below is a crop from the same photo. I like both versions for different reasons.
