Millbrook Primary School is in a Flood risk area in Bettws, Newport. It was chosen as a site to deliver a Welsh Government funded Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS) project. It would include a SuDS workshop followed by a walkaround the school grounds with pupils who would look at where improvements could take place. We would then design some improvements within the budget. Finally we would build these improvements with teachers, pupils and parents to increase ownership of the project. This one is to delivered by Chris Partridge and Sally Morgan.
These photos include installing 3 double and 4 single 2-tier Rainwater Terrace waterbutts. Building a raised SuDS bed made from Oak sleepers and filling this with soil and capping with sedum turf, removing damaged sections of flooring in the outdoor classroom and building a new floor made from recycled plastic. Finally we re-opened the outdoor classroom thanks to funding from Welsh Government. All the works were done with the children from planning to construction.,
