This week's theme for Mosaic Montage Monday was Flooring/Ground. I spotted this artistic gem in front of the Blue Anchor Building in Downtown Sacramento. HMMM!

This is a stack of slate waiting to be used as outside patio flooring at my neighbors house. I thought the way the workers had it stacked had a certain eye appeal and decided to take a couple of snaps. I liked the results and thought I would share it with all of you..
Slate is a fine-grained, foliated, homogeneous metamorphic rock derived from an original shale-type sedimentary rock composed of clay or volcanic ash through low grade regional metamorphism. The result is a foliated rock in which the foliation may not correspond to the original sedimentary layering. Slate is frequently grey in colour especially when seen en masse covering roofs. However, slate occurs in a variety of colours even from a single locality. For example slate from North Wales can be found in many shades of grey from pale to dark and may also be purple, green or cyan. Slate is not to be confused with shale, from which it may be formed, or schist.
Chemical composition
Slate is mainly composed of quartz and muscovite or illite, often along with biotite, chlorite, hematite, and pyrite and, less frequently, apatite, graphite, kaolin, magnetite, tourmaline, or zircon as well as feldspar. Occasionally, as in the purple slates of North Wales, ferrous reduction spheres form around iron nuclei, leaving a light green spotted texture. These spheres are sometimes deformed by a subsequent applied stress field to ovoids, which appear as ellipses when viewed on a cleavage plane of the specimen.
Slate in buildings
Slate can be made into roofing slates, also called roofing shingles, installed by a slater[1]. Slate has two lines of breakability: cleavage and grain. This makes it possible to split slate into thin sheets. When broken, slate produces a natural appearance while remaining relatively flat and can be easily stacked. Silicone glue adheres to slate.
Slate tiles are often used for interior and exterior flooring, stairs, walkways, and wall cladding. Tiles are installed and set on mortar and grouted along the edges. Chemical sealants are often used on tiles to improve durability and appearance, increase stain resistance, reduce efflorescence, and increase or reduce surface smoothness. Tiles are often sold gauged, meaning that the back surface is ground for ease of installation. Slate flooring can however be slippery when used in external locations subject to rain. Slate tiles were used in 19th century UK building construction (apart from roofs) and in slate quarrying areas such as Bethesda there are still many buildings wholly constructed of slate. Slates can also be set into walls to provide a rudimentary damp-proof membrane. Small offcuts are used as shims to level floor joists. In areas where slate is plentiful it is also used in pieces of various sizes for building walls and hedges, sometimes combined with other kinds of stone.

Paris, France - May 2020: during the COVID-19 lockdown, on the exit allowance time, local people are walking in Montmartre,rue du Chevalier de la Barre, in front of the wall where two french general were shooted by insurgent during the Paris Commune revolt in 1871. In order to protest against the COVID restrictions, and because of the symbolic of this wall, some protesters have tagged the wall with the sentence « On va se venger, vive la Révolution » (in French) which means « We will take revenge! Long life to the Revolution ». This wall is standing just in front of the the Basilica of the Sacred Heart (Basilique du Sacré-Cœur).
SLS Lux is a 57-story skyscraper luxury apartment building and hotel in the Brickell district of Greater Downtown Miami, Florida, United States.
The building consists of 450 condo units and 78 hotel-condo units set atop a parking pedestal. SLS Lux is located at South Miami Avenue and Southeast Eighth Street, across from Brickell City Centre, at 801 South Miami Avenue. It is regarded as one of the best apartment buildings in its neighborhood by residents, with an array of opulent features from marble flooring throughout the common areas, two rooftop pools, an on-site spa and gym, private elevators to each residence, top of the line appliances, modern finishes and 24-hour security and valet service.
Announced in 2014 as the third tower in the Brickell Heights development (although it is across South Miami Avenue), site work and ground construction began in 2014, with vertical construction commencing in July 2015, after receiving approval from the Federal Aviation Administration. Designed by Arquitctonica, the building was, at this time, expected to have 450 "residences" and 95 hotel units with the delivery of fall 2017. In September, when the Related Group secured a $166.1 million construction loan for the project, the number of hotel suites had shrunk to only 84; however, at this time additional amenities were announced including a tennis court, three pools, and a spa, with a bar and restaurant operated by SBE Entertainment.
By November 2015, the building had already been more than 95% leased, with only 24 units remaining un-leased. At that time, Related cut the required deposit from 50% to 30%, in an attempt to lease the final units faster.

Not lush or water resistant, but cardboard is cheap and easy to lay down. This floor represents the season's most durable and luxurious cardboard from across America.

Grand Canyon is known as one of the "Seven Wonders of the World"
Now at the West Rim, an all-glass balcony-like "Skywalk"- extends over the edge of the Grand Canyon, 4,000 feet (1,200 meters) above the Colorado River. I wanted to test how far my fear of heights can hold on this walk but an entrance fee of 29 dollars and the prohibition of cellphones and cameras on the site have scared me even more, lol. For what good would it be to battle against my own fear if I won't have the prize to take pictures while I am at the "skywalk"? And worst is, I was burning with flu.
By the way, they have their own commercial photographer to take your photo. :-(. So you know what that means.
Additional note: You also have to change your footwear. You'll be provided with a pair so as not to scratch the glass flooring. Think about it: You'll be walking on a transparent flooring overlooking from a height of 4000 feet and watch the river below you !!! If you have fear for heights, this is definitely NOT for you.

Built in the 11th century as a two cell structure, and over the years it expanded…… described as a building of sandstone with two aisles, two chancels and a steeple at the west end. The steeple is said to have been built in Henry VII’s reign. The Victorians carried out major repairs in the 19th century
On the16th August 1944 during WW2, St Mary’s received a direct hit from a flying bomb, a doodlebug, Only the tower and parts of the chancel wall survived.

Working on the floors of the three levels. In the upper left corner are laser cut 1” wood square tiles, I bought for the main floor. I glued them down at a diagonal to create more interest, than a straight pattern would have been.
The upper right floor, I cut the pieces and glued them down in a tongue and groove pattern.
The bottom floor, I used the same wood cuts, but put it down in a herringbone pattern.
After sanding, I painted two of the floors and sanded again to let the pattern come through. All three floors will be sealed with a satin finish clear sealant.
With the floors being almost finished, the next step will be the lighting.
