- diameter of the flint stone, found on the garden path: 5 cm
- Pareidolia is a psychological phenomenon involving a stimulus (an image or a sound) wherein the mind perceives a familiar pattern where none actually exists.
Common examples are perceived images of animals, faces, or objects in cloud formations.
One of my two Lhasa Apso dogs, taking part in his favourite pastime....
The Lhasa Apso has a long history in his country of origin, Tibet. They have existed at least since the year 800 A.D., and for centuries they lived in isolation with Tibetan Buddhists in the Himalayan Mountains.
Their Tibetan Name Means “Bark Lion Sentinel Dog”.
Yes Yes I know, another shot of this Flint Mill but the light was so good I had to capture it. Would have loved a better sky though. Once used to grind calcined flint, an important ingredient for the local pottery industry in particular the creamware produced by Josiah Wedgwood.

Here is a vertorama of the Flint River as it bisects Richfield County Park, November 13, 2022. Richfield is Genesee County's first park, founded in 1935 and received WPA development efforts shortly thereafter. I took this from what was called the "highway bridge" built back then. It is a two-lane bridge with nice step-up sidewalks....for photos like this! Thank-you, WPA!
Flint Hill School, Willard, Missouri, was built in 1902 to replace an earlier one that had been erected in 1857. A tornado blew the school house over on its side in 1917, but the building remained intact. The neighbors, wanting to preserve a bit of history, managed to raise the school house back on its original foundation with the help of house jacks.

Dashing about Bookham this morning doing a few urgent chores I had to cross the road near the Squareabout at the crossroads - and waiting for a gap in the traffic I could not fail to notice the flint wall of the church is now covered in some lovely blue flowers . Well , the chores had to wait for a few moments while I grabbed the P&S from my backpack and grab a couple of shots for all to see .
Note :- Some of you may well remember my recent shot of the big American yellow bus in the pub car park which is behind me as I take this shot , well the pub has changed hands a couple of weeks back and the big yellow bus is no longer there anymore !!
This was the steward's building known as Flint Cottage at Broome Park, near Barham, Kent. Lord Kitchener lived here for five years.
"Flint Cottage stands adjacent to the original Writtle Gate and is Grade Two listed, but features on the English Heritage register of buildings at risk."

Lake State Y119 with one of their new-to-them Tier 4 SD70's handling 63 cars solo is rolling over the bridge in Bridgeport over the Cass River. They left Saginaw after 310 showed up and dropped their cars next to the staged 119 which the 119 crew then double onto cars they already had and took it all south. Once they arrive in Flint they'll yard their train and tie up for the day. This day never saw any sun, but this angle wouldn't work if there was sun given the way current operations typically run. The amount of growth around the bridge makes it tricky to shoot at all these days. Bridgeport, MI 4/25/2026
Soon the prescribed burns will be happening in the hills and things will begin to turn green. It's an evey year ritual with the ranchers. Burning keeps the woody vegetation such cedar trees, roughleaf dogwood, sumac and others. The green grass provides lots of nutrients in the spring for the cattle. Cattle will gain about 40% of their weight then.

Flint corn, or Indian corn, is one of the oldest varieties of corn, a type that Native Americans taught the early colonists how to cultivate. Its kernels, which come in a range of colors including white, blue and red, have “hard as flint” shells, giving this type of corn its name. Flint corn kernels contain a small amount of soft starch surrounded completely by a larger amount of hard starch, which means the kernels shrink uniformly when drying and are dent-free and less prone to spoiling (and therefore ideal for autumnal décor). Despite its tough exterior, this type of corn can be consumed by livestock and humans, and is used in such dishes as hominy and polenta. (info-www.history.com)
Flint Castle was the first of a series of castles built during King Edward I's campaign to conquer Wales. The site was chosen for its strategic position in north east Wales. The castle was only one day's march from Chester, supplies could be brought along the River Dee and there was a ford across to England that could be used at low tide.
When work ceased in 1286, Flint Castle had an inner ward and an outer bailey. They were separated by a tidal moat and were connected with gatehouse and drawbridge. During the English Civil War, Flint Castle was held by the Royalists. It was finally captured by the Parliamentarians in 1647 after a three-month siege. To prevent its reuse in the conflict, the castle was then slighted in accordance with Cromwell's destruction order. The ruins are what remain today.
