Rocks surrounding Thor's Well are mostly basalt, while water that fills and empties in the hole is saltwater from the ocean. Many images exaggerate the actual diameter of Thor's Well, which is actually only around 3 meters (10 feet).
Well according to the flickr DNA site, it's been exactly one year since I uploaded my first image to flickr, and 40.000 something views... in that time, my photos have changed a lot (I think) and in some way, perhaps matured some, though there is still a lot to learn... Anyway, I'd like to thank everyone here on flickr, all the comments & encouragement have been really significant for me. Cheers!
Note: This was just playing around with a flash, cardboard snoot and reflector...
I made the decision to cancel my Flickr subscription. This decision didn't come easy. I feel that my experience at Flickr has consistently deteriorated over the last several years, most notably over the last one year. I don't feel that Flickr is a place any longer that values quality photos and a community that cares. I've taken breaks in the past and returned to Flickr eager to restart and with the hope that things would improve. They haven't. My numbers are consistently down by 2-3 fold over the last several years, and I don't want to pay for that aggravation. I don't think that my photographic skills have deteriorated that much; I think other trends are at play.
Over the years I've lost countless friends, who I guess have come to the same conclusion. It's sad because there are several friends left that I deeply care for and value their company and outstanding photography. I'm sad to say that it's not enough.
I feel like it's the elephant in the room that no one wants to talk about: that Flickr has changed.
I was so excited about posting my fall photos from this year - It's both sad and disappointing. So long Flickr. Maybe one day I'll be back.
The only bit of GB I could find for the theme. It sadly lost its lid a long time ago.
Better viewed large and thank you for your favourites.

Continuing with the winter theme (still), and another rare dabble into waterfalls for me, first outing for this image from last year, a tighter crop.
Catrigg Force is found a short distance from the village of Stainforth, just north of Settle, where there is a National Park car park. From the same car park it is also only a short walk to Stainforth Force - another dramatic waterfall.
Happy Solstice!!
