On Saturday, Feb. 1, visitors to the Pequot Museum enjoyed a day full of activites and workshops. In our Gathering Space, Dr. Manuel Lizarralde, professor of Ethnobotany at Connecticut College, a bowyer and arrow maker for the last 25 years, demonstrated how to fletch an arrow. During our First Saturday Crafts, visitors learned about the importance of the butterfly and made one out of recycled items as well as enjoyed a creepy-crawly treat. Our featured artist, Elizabeth James Perry (Aquinnah Wampanoag) led a porcupine quill embroidery class in one of our classrooms, where students learned how to sew porcupine quills onto a small leather bag.
Andy or Andrew "Fletch" Fletcher performing at the Rock Werchter Festival in Belgium. The British band played a 2 hour headline set, and managed to live up to their expectations with a great show.

To get this result I :-
* made a low angle shot of the gate to get the sky as background
* cut and copied Fletcher from another shot.
* gave it a vintage look by desaturating, adding a layer of cream with 'soft light' and lastly adding an old style border
This is a close-up of the fletchings on an arrow that I made for my son as a commemoration of his completion of the Arrow of Light award in Scouting.
It has a real Native American arrowhead from Montgomery or Stewart County in Tennessee that I've had since I was a child. I made the fletchings from turkey feathers that I found in Oktibbeha County, Mississippi. Both the arrowhead and the fletchings are secured to the shaft using artificial sinew.
I had started turning a shaft on my lathe out of local wood, but after the lathe motor seized I was forced to use a birch dowel rod. However, I used the arrowhead to scrape the shaft so it has a hand-tooled look. I crushed bkacberries and mixed them with alum to dye the shaft.
Fletch off to an office party where the theme was "Prom Night 1980". She couldn't bring herself to tell her colleagues that she actually WENT to a prom in 1980...

Part of my final project for a fantasy literature class. One option for the assignment was to do an art project based on a book covered in class or a story of your own.
This series consists of character portraits based on a story I'm developing. The story is inspired by/loosely based on the song "Hand of Sorrow" by Within Temptation.

Tonight I had another shoot with Fletch for a couple of singles he's releasing. This photo has been limited to friends and family because they're not supposed to be released until after the singles and marketing material are released...but this woman was just so hot I couldn't resist putting one up tonight. Hope my selected few "friends and family" enjoy this shot. :)
After talking to Fletch and Madison, I have authorization to put a couple of these public on here so here ya go :D
