San Francisco Fleet Week 2016 finished with a bang on Sunday, with another spectacular airshow, featuring (among others) the Bretling Jet Team, The Patriots, and the Blue Angels, who were competing to see who could get the most "wow" moments with the crowd!

Taken in 2003, this is a merge of 2 or 3 handheld shots taken with my much loved but now long departed Powershot G5. I shot jpeg in those days and sadly the original files are lost. This version (which has had levels and stuff tweaked quite heavily) doesn't stand close scrutiny I'm afraid, although in the past I have had a couple of A3 prints made from it.
I particularly like the tones and colours around the chapel and the light streaming over the hills to the left of it. The brightly reflective road in the middle ground near the chapel is the same road as that in the foreground and is part of my track to work. The recent rain meant that the road was wet and is therefore reflecting the early morning sun.
If I remember, this scene was taken in Jan/Feb and was shot from the same spot as my other view of the Fleet. In all the years I have been travelling this route to and from my day job, I have yet to encounter these atmospheric conditions again!!

This was the airshow that almost wasn't - Karl the Fog owned the day. Yes we got to see a few planes through gaps in the fog, but it was a very subdued event, with over half of the planned performances not happening at all, and with very scaled back displays from those that did.
Whenever we could actually see a plane through the fog I took photographs in the hope of getting something...
On a typical Fleet Week flying day I can easily shoot over 5,000 photos of planes in action. The shots in this album are the "best"(?) of around 400 taken all day.
