The rest of the fleet is composed of small boats operated by single fishermen and some operate as guided fishing boats for tourists who fish the 30 mile long estuary and then take their catch to a nearby restaurant where it is cooked. Rumour has it that the Mexican gov.t has identified this area for major tourist development so all of this may change one day.

1350. HMAS ARUNTA [I] had been paid off in 1957, and looks quite well kept up here, almost seven years later. Beside her are one of the 570-800 tons full load Reserve Class fleet tugs, with the Motor Stores Lighter 252 at her stern.

MSL 252 would later be recommissioned as the survey tender HMAS PALUMA [III].

ARUNTA would be towed away for breaking up in Japan on Feb. 12 1969, but famously turn on her beam ends and sink 60 miles East of Broken Bay in the early hours of the next morning.

Fleet Week -- San Francisco, CA 10/7/06.

Man, I really need to get a telephoto lens!!!

I also missed a bunch of shots because I got really sea sick and was slumped over the side of the boat praying for a quick death. Other than that, it was alot of fun.

Another shot of the practice runs for Fleet Week 2011. Not sure what type of fighter jet this was.

Tour boat, Fleet Week, San Francisco. All the tour boats were full. Normal for one of the busiest weekends during the year here. There was a ball game; shows and displays at Ft. Mason; and the Blue Angels - to name just a few events and attractions. Too bad Muni can't get it together. They start telling people several days ahead to take public transportation because of the traffic congestion - then have less buses than normal on the busiest routes, like from Golden Gate Bridge. It took me from 4:00 to 6:45 to get home on Saturday. There were gaps of over 45 minutes between buses, and when they came they were packed like sardines - very dangerous for both the drivers and the passengers! I let several overstuffed buses go by because I couldn't fit in with my camera. Besides there were mothers with children needing to get home. Then because I was chilled to the bone I jammed my way onto one through the back door. Not a pleasant experience. This year I got there much earlier than usual to avoid that mess on the way. But going back it was the “same old, same old nightmare.” My guess is because the city 'officials' don't ride public transportation that they can't relate and frankly don't care. Whatever the reason it's the same every year.
