The IFR brings more than 17 foreign warships and 5,000 visiting sailors together with Canada’s Atlantic fleet in a major naval assembly doused in tradition. The last time Canada held International Fleet Reviews was in 1985 on the Atlantic and Pacific coast to highlight the 75th Anniversary of Canada’s naval service.
The IFR is part of Canadian Naval Centennial Celebrations organized to mark this significant moment in Canada’s naval history within the context of the centennial theme of, “Bring the Navy to Canadians. Events are aimed at honouring the past, showcasing the current navy and reinforcing the requirement for the future navy.

Coastwise harbour of the Black Sea Shipyard (Ukrainian: Чорноморський суднобудівельний завод; Russian: Черноморский судостроительный завод).
The Black Sea Shipyard is located in Mykolaiv, Ukraine and is the largest shipyard on the Black Sea. It is most often referred to as the Nikolayev South Shipyard and was known as Soviet Shipyard No. 444.
The shipyard constructed the Moskva-class helicopter ships, Kiev-class VSTOL aircraft carriers, naval auxiliaries, commercial ships, and submarines. They also began construction on the legendary Stalingrad battlecruiser but was canceled after Stalin's death in 1953.
Today, the shipyard is a major enterprise consisting of shipbuilding, machine-building, and metallurgy. The shipyard has its own design center with a qualified engineering staff and modern computer equipment. Their integrated shipbuilding system (FORAN) includes computer-aided design (CAD), engineering (CAE), and manufacturing (CAM) of vessels.

I was walking the dog up at Fleet Pond and stumbled upon this event. The organisers told me it was for military personnel or ex services only because of the COVID situation. I got asked a few times if I was press, I think because I had my long lens (I had this for wildlife). It was fantastic to see an event and people out and about, this COVID business has shut everything down this year and we had so many plans. I guess everybody did. Got introduced to some old boy who was 83 and running around - incredible.
Anyway, these guys were orienteering, which was pretty cool. I haven't done this since I was in the Scouts. It now seemed pretty high tech with electronic markers in the ground where you clock in and clock in. Cool to see, just wish I'd taken my wallet so I could have bought a tea. Goes to show also good to have a nice camera with me.
