Royal Navy in the Far East & Pacific
At the start of hostilities with Japan, the Royal Navy's Eastern Fleet headquartered in Singapore took heavy losses in attempting to protect British and Dutch colonies. While attempting to stop the invasion of Malaya, on December 10, 1941 the battleship HMS Prince of Wales and battlecruiser HMS Repulse were sunk by Japanese land based aircraft. In April 1942, Japanese carriers raided the Indian Ocean and Ceylon sinking several vessels including the aircraft carrier HMS Hermes and the cruisers HMS Cornwall and Dorsetshire. After the raid, the Eastern fleet retreated to the east coast of Africa.
As naval commitments in Europe lessened, modern aircraft carriers and battleships were reassigned to the Eastern Fleet. The Eastern Fleet worked with US Navy elements conducting operations in the Dutch East Indies and New Guinea.
In November 1944, the British Pacific Fleet was formed to work in conjunction with the United States Pacific Fleet. At the core of the fleet were six modern fleet carriers and four light carriers supported by modern battleships, cruisers, destroyers, tankers, and supply ships. The Pacific Fleet took part in the Invasion of Okinawa, strikes against the Japanese mainland, and was present at the Japanese surrender.
Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm
Officer Battledress Uniform
in 1943, the Royal Navy introduced a standardized battledress uniform made of blue serge wool, with rank shoulder boards, and gold gilt brass buttons. The uniform was usually worn with a white shirt and a black tie. This uniform has the rank braid of a lieutenant on its shoulders. This pilot is wearing a standard Fleet Air Arm flying kit, including a Type 1941 Life Vest, a Naval C-Type Leather Flying Helmet with zip ear covers, a G-Type Oxygen Mask, Mk Vill Flying Goggles, and Type D Flying Gauntlets.

Built for the Wroxham based hire fleet of Porter & Haylett as Sunmist in the mid 1970s, Mayfair follows a standard layout for a Hampton 25 and is the only remaining hire cruiser in the fleet of Maycraft. She is seen on the River Yare between Hardley Cross and the Hardley wind pump.

This is a first year Fleet model. Well, i should say a first year middleweight Fleet sporting the slimline tank. From what i've researched, this is a pretty rare tank made only one year with the Schwinn decals on the upper portion of the tank and horn delete. I wish i had taken some "before" pics of this thing, because it was a total heap when i hauled it home. In fact, i was kicking myself for spending the 90 bucks it took to buy the sorry thing...lol.. I put a LOT of time and work into this bike, but at least now i don't feel bad about buying it!!
Miss Fortune, aptly named, resting in the mud and dreaming of distant memories of bay waters running past her bow.
The inside and rear decks of this vessel reeked of some kind of fuel; we didn't stick around very long. Good thing we don't smoke...
