Ricardo and I were the first to arrive at Ritter's. While he was at the MAC machine, I entertained myself.
When I get lots of silverware, I end up with hollow ware knives that I can't really use for creating designs. Recently I remembered seeing this photo: www.flickr.com/photos/two_claws_jewelry/4014499132/
posted by a jeweler who was gracious enough to share his know how on separating the blades from the handles in order to utilize them for file handles.
And here are some handles, blades removed, quenched, and ready for action.

I figured out that I can use the handles of old stainless steel flatware to get some cool patterns onto metal. It's not exact, but it is just enough to be unique and mysterious.

J. A. Henckels "Azur" flatware circa 1969. Mid-century modern aficionados: it doesn't get more authentic than this.
I made this flatware tray for one of the pantry drawers to take advantage of the drawer depth. Added fabric under IKEA clear drawer mat to make it pretty. Now I'm waiting for the new set of flatware I ordered from Crate & Barrel!
