Brightonistan Palace

The palace was built by His Highness Prince Harri Sheik-Kebabi in the early 19th century to entertain his guests. A part of the exquisite Palace is still residence for the current Emperor of Brightonistan and his entourage of dancing Cormorants.

On entering the magnificent grounds a beautiful gateway welcomes the visitor to Prestoni-Circus a hall built for the display of long haired women and a vast collection of ancient manuscripts devoted to the study of menstrual cramps. It has a collection of sterling silver vessels on display and they are acclaimed to be the world's largest silver vessels, standing at over thirty four feet high. These vessels were made for Maharaja Sawai Ditchling Singh II to carry water from the sacred River Ouse to drink on his all-inclusive trip to the mystic land of Kemptown.

Seven Dials-I-Aam, which was meant for public audiences with the Emperors and brutal executions of lower caste clerks found guilty of public breaches of the flatulence laws, forms the other attraction of this courtyard. Today it is an art gallery showcasing enthralling painted ceilings, rare ancient handwritten original manuscripts of Hindu scriptures and of course the centuries old world-renowned hand carved sandstone motorcycles.

Edible Parts: Leaves, Shoots, Oil

Edible Uses: Oil, Salad, Asparagus,Vegetable, Potherb,

Young leaves - raw or cooked. A bitter flavor. The young tender leaves are mild and make an excellent salad, but the whole plant becomes bitter as it gets older, especially when coming into flower. As a potherb it needs very little cooking. Large quantities can cause digestive upsets. Young shoots - cooked. Used as an asparagus substitute. An edible oil is obtained from the seed. The oil must be refined before it is edible. A pleasant flavor.

MEDICINAL USES: Anodyne; Antipyretic; Diuretic; Homeopathy; Hypnotic; Narcotic; Sedative, Antispasmodic, Digestive, Sedative,

The whole plant is rich in a milky sap that flows freely from any wounds. This hardens and dries when in contact with the air. The sap contains 'lactucarium', which is used in medicine for its anodyne, antispasmodic, digestive, diuretic, hypnotic, narcotic and sedative properties. Lactucarium has the effects of a feeble opium, but without its tendency to cause digestive upsets, nor is it addictive. It is taken internally in the treatment of insomnia, anxiety, neuroses, hyperactivity in children, dry coughs, whooping cough, rheumatic pain etc.. Concentrations of lactucarium are low in young plants and most concentrated when the plant comes into flower. It is collected commercially by cutting the heads of the plants and scraping the juice into china vessels several times a day until the plant is exhausted. This species does not contain as much lactucarium as L. virosa. An infusion of the fresh or dried flowering plant can also be used. The plant should be used with caution, and never without the supervision of a skilled practitioner. Even normal doses can cause drowsiness while excess causes restlessness and overdoses can cause death through cardiac paralysis. The fixed oil from the seeds is said to possess antipyretic and hypnotic properties. A homeopathic remedy is made from the plant. It is used in the treatment of chronic catarrh, coughs, swollen liver, flatulence and ailments of the urinary tract.

OTHER USES: Oil

The seed contains 35.2% of a semi-drying oil. It is used in soap making, paints, varnishes etc..

Monarda didyma

Oswego tea, scarlet bee balm, bergamot, scarlet monarda

Lamiaceae

from Monarda didyma @Wiki

Beebalm has a long history of use as a medicinal plant by many Native Americans, including the Blackfeet. The Blackfeet Indians recognized this plant's strong antiseptic action, and used poultices of the plant for skin infections and minor wounds. A tea made from the plant was also used to treat mouth and throat infections caused by dental caries and gingivitis. Beebalm is the natural source of the antiseptic thymol, the primary active ingredient in modern commercial mouthwash formulas. The Winnebago used a tea made from beebalm as a general stimulant. It was also used as a carminative herb by Native Americans to treat excessive flatulence.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Both Monarda didyma and M. fistulosa are NOT the bergamot in Earl Grey tea. That 'bergamot' is actually from the rind of a citrus from the Mediterranean called the Bergamot orange.

Besides an essential part of Indian Spices, Fenugreek seeds use in preventing some diseases such as intestinal gas, cramps, flatulence, bloating, indigestion, diabetes, cancer, high blood pressure, arthritis, liver toxicity. It is also beneficial in settling down the liver-related problems.

Note: Diarrhea is the most common side effects occur with the excess use of fenugreek seeds.

More details: aatmyogashala.com/

Myrrhis odorata is a perennial growing to 1 m (3ft 3in) by 1 m (3ft 3in). It is hardy to zone 5 and is not frost tender. It is in flower from May to June, and the seeds ripen from Jul to August. The flowers are hermaphrodite (have both male and female organs) and are pollinated by Bees, flies, beetles. The plant is self-fertile. It is noted for attracting wildlife. Grassy places, hedges and woods in hilly regions, often near human habitations. Found in Europe, including Britain.

Leaves - raw or cooked. Excellent raw, the leaves have a delicious sweet aniseed flavour and are liked by the majority of people who try them. They are also used as a flavouring for vegetables, and are an important ingredient of the herb mix 'bouquet garni'. They can be cooked with tart fruits in order to reduce their acidity. The plant produces fresh leaves from late winter to early the following winter. The leaves can also be dried for later use. It is best to prevent the plant from flowering if the leaves are required for culinary use, because they lose their flavour when the plant is in flower. Root - raw or cooked. A similar flavour to the leaves. So long as it is not too old, the root can be boiled and mixed with other vegetables or added to salads. Seed - raw or cooked. An aniseed flavour, it is usually used as a flavouring but can also be eaten raw whilst it is still green and before the fibrous coat has formed. It makes an excellent mouth freshener. A tea is made from the leaves.

The whole plant, including the seed, is aromatic, carminative, expectorant and stomachic. It is useful in the treatment of coughs and flatulence, and also as a gentle stimulant for the stomach. The root is antiseptic and a decoction has been used to treat snake and dog bites. An ointment made from the roots has been used to ease gout and soothe wounds.

I haven't seen many of these plants before, I'm not sure if it is related to the thistle family, it should be if you go by the sharpness of its spikes, the flower-heads look a bit like teasels. Looking it up I learn that they are properly called Eryngiums. The plant has herbal qualities apparently being considered not only an aphrodisiac but also just the job for dealing with flatulence! A combination not often found in lesser flora...

Constant flatulence? Intestinal wind is still a taboo subject. Yet it is quite natural that increased gas is produced in the abdomen, especially after eating. Nevertheless, flatulence can be unpleasant to highly embarrassing or even pathological. Find out here where flatulence comes from, how to avoid flatulence or how to treat extreme flatulence.

The most important facts in brief:

- Most gas in the intestines is caused by swallowing air and bacterial digestion.

- There are many causes of excessive intestinal gas, many of which can be prevented.

- Healthy intestinal flora is critical in treating flatulence.

Foul-smelling gas can be very uncomfortable and embarrassing in the long run

Flatulence or bloating, What's the difference?

Excessive gas accumulation in the abdomen can also lead to bloating (meteorism) - the accumulated gas bulges the abdominal wall outward, stretching the intestinal walls (abdominal distension). This stretching can contribute to severe abdominal pain in some people who have more sensitive intestinal walls. A bloated abdomen, due to too much air in the abdomen, can be accompanied by discomfort such as excessive belching or flatulence and can last for a few minutes or all day. For others, it feels like the air in the belly doesn't come out, so it's like a bloated belly without gas.

Most often, flatulence and bloating occur after eating or when eating certain foods. But stress or diseases of the gastrointestinal tract can also be causes.

Also known as Queen Anne's Lace. The seeds are a beneficial antiseptic diuretic useful in the treatment of cystitis and prostatitis. Also, the seeds are used for the prevention and washing out of gravel and urinary stones. As a diuretic, it helps with dropsy and the elimination of uric acid from the body (thus, used for gout). The seeds, which are high in volatile oil, are soothing to the digestive system, useful for colic and flatulence. Some herbalists employ the seeds as an implantation preventer. A poultice of the root is excellent for first aid, especially for itchy skin. CAUTION: Queen Anne's Lace has several poisonous look alikes. Do NOT use this herb (seeds) with pregnancy.

Doctors receptionist. The old fashioned kind.

You know her sort...you will get to see the doctor of your choice over her dead body.

She also wants you to explain every lurid detail of your pruritis/supperating rash/flatulence to her, in earshot of the entire waiting room, before she will even consider looking for an appointment date for you.

Thankfully my own health centre no longer employs people like that, but they certainly did long ago.
