About 15 miles south of Kalispell, Flathead Lake is the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi and one of my favorite places. This is another of my musings under the heading "what if I won the lottery".

Flathead Gudgeon - Philypnodon grandiceps (Krefft, 1864) [more of this species]
Looks very much like a goby but is infact a gudgeon, where the pelvic fins are free and not fused into a disc.

Looking west thru the drizzly misty air from the east side across Flathead Lake. Home for vacation to NW Mt, heading out on a drive around Flathead Lake, maybe w/a detour. I asked if we could drive south on the east side so the sun would be behind/above us, and come back north on the west side later in the day w/the sun behind us there. Kathy understood - a true photographer's friend, understanding such convoluted logic ;))
Largest freshwater lake west of the Mississippi. Over 33 miles long and about nine miles wide.
