Flathead County. View along US Highway 2 at Pinnacle, formerly known as Paola. Paola was a Great Northern Railway station near the Middle Fork of the Flathead River, north of Essex. The town once had a school, post office, and a general store. The Paola post office opened in 1914 (October 9) with Marie Cameron as postmaster. It closed in 1919 (April 30) but was opened again in 1920 (September 29) with Laura Erb serving as postmaster. In 1928 (October 31), the Paola post office was closed for the final time. About this time, the community became known as Pinnacle.
