From 24/06/2022 till 08/01/2023 Invader had an exhibition in the Nima Museum in Bruxelles (Molenbeek Saint-Jean) under the titel Invader Rubikcubist. For this occasion, Invader has placed two new space invaders on the outside of the museum. His second invasion wave in Brussels since 2012. A total of 80 extra points for the city of Brussels.

This one is located on the roof of the MIMA museum.

52 Weeks Project

I had joy I had fun, flashing space invaders in Clermont-Ferran'...

Location: Centre du Clermont-Ferrand, La Jetée. "Sauve Qui Peut Le Court Metrage", the "Studio cinématographique", the center of the short film festival.

Coordinates: 45°46'38" N 3°5'21" E

Reason: This "52-Weeks" selfportrait is made during my 3-day road trip to the city of Clermont-Ferrand to visit, capture and flash (by the online game FlashInvaders) all space invaders of Clermont-Ferrand. Like this one on the facade of the "Sauve Qui Peut Le Court Metrage" building. A pellicle with space invaders, identity CLR_18 and worth 100 point, the maximum a space invader can be.

Invasion of Clermont-Ferrand:

The first (two?) invasion wave(s) of the center of Clermont-Ferrand occured in the year 2000 and consisted 8 space invaders, 4 of them are still there (including 1 re-activation) and flashable.

In January 2016 Clermont-Ferrand was invaded again, the 3rd invasion wave took place:

"At the occasion of the screening of the very last version of the movie Art4Sspace at the Interntional Short Film Festival of Clermont-Ferrand, I have added 31 new creations to the city of the center of France. Among various themes, they refer to movies and cinema but also to what Clermont Ferrand is famous for : its gothic cathedrale, its volcanos, its Michelin factories and its Serge Gainsbourg street" (Invader)

Other views of CLR_18: Zoom in and less zoomed in.

Weather: Almost sunny, 14° C

Self-portrait technics: Joby portable gorillapod mounted on a street pole, selftimer on 10 seconds.

Avignon is an invaded city. Two years ago in the Summer of 2013 I found 22 of all 41 space invaders. The interactive game application FlashInvaders was nonexistent at that time. During the little time of my visit in Avignon this time I tried to flash the most of them, the score was 12 flashed Avignon space invaders with a total score of 180 points plus 100 bonus points 'new city'.

Sad news is that 5 space invades I encountered in 2013 are not there anymore.

I guess this is one of the biggest space invaders in Paris. Very well visible from the métro line 6 between the stations Chevaleret and Quai de la Gare along the Boulevard Vincent Auriol. Almost 3 three stories high on one of the buildings of Hôpital La Pitié-Salpêtrière. This character is nobody else than House (when flashing this one with the app FlashInvaders it says "HOUSE IS IN DA HOUSE".

House (also called House, M.D.) is an American television medical drama that originally ran on the Fox network for eight seasons, from November 16, 2004 to May 21, 2012. The series' main character is Dr. Gregory House (Hugh Laurie), a pain medication-dependent, unconventional, misanthropic medical genius who leads a team of diagnosticians at the fictional Princeton–Plainsboro Teaching Hospital (PPTH) in New Jersey. The series' premise originated with Paul Attanasio, while David Shore, who is credited as creator, was primarily responsible for the conception of the title character. The series' executive producers included Shore, Attanasio, Attanasio's business partner Katie Jacobs, and film director Bryan Singer. It was filmed largely in Century City. [ Wikipedia ]

PA_1205 was the 3329th space invader in the world.

Not in full sun but taken during the period of dusk. This big blue two dimensional invader is located at the corner of the Boulevard Garibaldi and La Canebière near métro and tram station Noailles.

Till August 2020 I found and flashed all 13 space invaders of wave 1 (MARS_01 - MARS_11 - 2004 and wave 2 (MARS_12 and MARS_13). But during wave 3 in August 2020 the number of space invaders went up to 97. In total 84 space invaders on my list again.

The originial of this one (see below for the link to the original space invader made in 1999) was the first space invader in the Netherlands and Amsterdam. The original has been deleted in October 2006 due to the renovation and painting of this monumental bridge. But it was part of the re-activation of gone space invaders. The fourth official re-activation in Amsterdam (AMS_04 in October 2015, AMS_10 in March 2016 and right before the re-activation of this one, AMS_11)

A bit hidden in the Oudayas neighbourhood this khamsa is on a white wall. The hamsa (or khamsa) also known as the hand of Fatima, is a palm-shaped amulet popular throughout North Africa and in the Middle East and commonly used in jewellery and wall hangings. Depicting the open hand, an image recognized and used as a sign of protection in many times throughout history, the hamsa has been traditionally believed to provide defense against the evil eye.

Reason: On 06/01/2023 Invader published on Instagram (Invaderwashere) the first invasion of the year 2023 / 5783; PA_1482. A second cryptopunk space invader landed in Paris. This time in the 18ème arrondissement in the quartier Goutte d'Or above the Olympic Café. When you are visiting a fresh new space invader then you have a very good chance to meet fellow space invader fans to flash this new invader.

CryptoPunks is a non-fungible token (NFT) collection on the Ethereum blockchain. The project was launched in June 2017 by the Larva Labs studio, a two-person team consisting of Canadian software developers Matt Hall and John Watkinson. The experimental project was inspired by the London punk scenes, the cyberpunk movement, and electronic music artists Daft Punk. There are 10,000 unique CryptoPunks (6,039 male and 3,840 female), all of which are made digitally scarce through the use of blockchain technology. Each one was algorithmically generated through computer code and thus no two characters are exactly alike, with some traits being rarer than others.

52 Weeks Project

In most cases, street art is only temporary. But sometimes you'd hope it was forever. The big answer and solution to this is re-activation...

Loaction: Amsterdam, Jordaan (exact location is hidden)

Coordinates: 52°22'40" N 4°52'56" E (rough estimation)

Reason: This space invader with ID AMS_04 has been deleted years ago. But in October 2015 a fan has re-activated this number 04 on exact the right location with exact the right type and color of mosaïc tiles. With the introduction of the online game application FlashInvaders some fans felt the urge to remake space invaders which have been removed from the walls. This is happening a lot in Paris (to date almost 50 space invaders have been 're-activated'), but also in Bastia, London, La Ciotat, Lyon, Basel, Bilbao, Rotterdam, San Diego and L.A.

Invasion of Amsterdam: Amsterdam was one of the first cities outside France which have been invaded. So far only one 'wave' (the one of 1999) with 26 space invaders and in total score of 360 points. As we speak 10 of them are visible including one 'reactivated', this AMS_04 (10 points).

FlashInvaders: At the moment: 7 490 Players / 234 588 Flashes / 8 413 570 Pts (23/02/2016 09h40)

Re-Activation of Amsterdam: Not all deleted space invaders are known by their location but still 11 of the deleted space invaders could be re-activated because data (location, shape, type and color of tiles used) is available. Could be an interesting job for 2016.

Weather: A clear and sunny but cold Winter morning, -2° C

Self-portrait technics: Joby portable gorillapod mounted on my bicycle with self-timer (10 seconds).

Never had the opportunity to get a good shot of the fourth space invader Invader installed in the Netherlands and Amsterdam in the year 1999. Unfortunately, this invader was already removed in about 2006. Due to the perfect re-activation work of one of the fans this is back in town and 'flashable' in the online application FlashInvaders. Do not forget to spot the sticker with a screenshot "NEW CITY 100 POINTS" above the invader.

A ground invader about three and a half years after re-activation. This type has a very hard time because they are constantly being trampled. But this one has held up well so far. PA_297 is part of 10 "ground" space invaders have been re-activated in June 2020. Time for a revisit with a WOFT photo ("What's On Foot Today")

May 1968. The volatile period of civil unrest in France during May 1968 was punctuated by demonstrations and massive general strikes as well as the occupation of universities and factories across France. This space invader is a commemorative invader of that period. In the matching colors red and white. Colors of the revolution.

A revisit and another photo during a walk in this neighbourhood.

From 24/06/2022 till 08/01/2023 Invader had an exhibition in the MiMa Museum (Millennium Iconoclast Museum of Art) in Bruxelles (Molenbeek Saint-Jean) under the titel Invader Rubikcubist. For this occasion, Invader has placed two new space invaders on the outside of the museum. His second invasion wave in Brussels since 2012. A total of 80 extra points for the city of Brussels.

Space invader hunt of the Summer of 2021!

Location: Corniche Président John Kennedy corner Rue Boudouresque in the quartier Endoume in the 7ème arrondissement of Marseille (F).

Coordinates: Click on the link to see the exact location on Google Maps:

43°16'58.2"N 5°21'01.8"E

Reason: An overnight in Marseille extended with one day to find as much new space invaders as possible. In the Summer of 2020 the third invasion wave of Marseille took place and 84 new invaders were added to this city and its wide area. All under the project Invasion Planete Marseille.

My FlashInvaders Score:

During the three days in Marseille I found 46 space invaders of the third wave. In total 59/97 in Marseille found/captured/flashed. My grand total of flashed space invaders was 1405 after this mission. I have scored 1710 points during this space invader hunt and climbed from rank 699 to 588.

As we speak (08/08/2021) there are 176.500 Flashinvaders players and in total 3.999 space invaders on the world map of Invader.

Invasion Planete Marseille: Till August 2020 I found and flashed all 13 space invaders of wave 1 (MARS_01 - MARS_11 - 2004 and wave 2 (MARS_12 and MARS_13). But during wave 3 in August 2020 the number of space invaders went up to 97. In total 84 space invaders on my list again. Wave 3 took almost one month and started on 24/07/2020 and ended on 20/08/2020.

Endoume: is the quartier I found MARS_63. It is part of the 7ème arrondissement. Endoume is also home to the Silvain theater, the Endoume marine station, the Marseille tide gauge on the Corniche (le marégraphe de Marseille), the False money bridge and the small port of Vallon des Auffes.

Endoume is crossed by two axes structuring the district: the Corniche Président-John-Fitzgerald-Kennedy (north-west south-east axis) and the rue d'Endoume (north-east south-west axis) and includes Malmousque, at its the westernmost end, sometimes considered a district in its own right.
