Hillcrest. San Diego, CA

Yet another naturish/seasonal typical shot. I'll hopefully have some more interesting stuff soon!

I took a ride over the Strasburg to try and get some steam in Fall colors. I stumbled into a photo excursion that I didn’t know about, with 475 on the regular trains, and 89 and 90 working the charter. Seeing 2-10-0 90 sparked a lot of fond memories from the 1970’s and 1980’s, with the oval logo, yellow tender pinstriping, white running board edges, and white “American Flyer driver tires. Of course, they didn't extend her firebox to its original lignite-burning configuration. Here 90 powers the photo freight backing across Esbenshade Road. Taken from private property with permission.

Last year's winter was a little more white around here...this year year, all the snow ended up a few hundred miles west of here.

Spring does not seem to be in any hurry to arrive in the foothills this year. Rain is rattling on the roof of my little man cave this morning, and Miles is giving me the sad puppy eyes knowing that his chances for a walk this morning will be slim. It seems like a good time for an autumn flashback. As the old mariners used to say, "any port in the storm." This is my port for today.

Days like today make me wish for summer and fllowers. The weather here's been a bit wild, high winds and brief periods of really heavy downpour. I've been spending a lot of time cleaning leaves and drains. True, the HOA is supposed to do that, but the guy they hire comes only on Wednesdays. Yesterday the street flooded again, and I went out to clean the drain (once I was able to find it under fifteen inches of water, mud, and swirling leaves). The water in the street was steadily creeping up to my place and I didn't want any water damage. After I got the drain unplugged, a good half hour or more of work in the rain, a couple of my neighbors came out of their place to thank me! Hey, how about a little help instead! I'm not so young anymore. Today I was out raking leaves again as the wind blew them out of the maples in the greenbelt. I'd rather rake leaves on a dry-ish street than wade in the water in my rainboots. Once again, I was thanked but not helped.

When Eveleth Taconite closed in spring 2003 DM&IR stored a number of older units, including all SD-Ms. Here is the dead line at Proctor in August 2003, a result of EVTAC's closing. Fortunately Cliffs would purchase the plant and restart operations at the very end of that year, with many of these units placed back in service.

A blast from the past. My daughter and my grandson visiting us when we lived in Minneapolis. HBM!

I am presently in the process of scanning the family photos that I inherited a couple of years ago. This was taken of my dad, my mom, and me about 74 years ago. I took a photo of the photo with my iPhone. Who would have thought.😀

At the 2023 carnaval in Frankfurt. And to think there was a time you could show up in that kind of outfit any other day of the year...

I've been trying to instill a bit of 'difference' into my car-trail photography. I've been to most of the bridges within about 15/20 miles of me, and they are starting to look very samey.

Whilst on a bridge, I stood on the spot, and took a shot facing each way. I think it's nice having the two shots together like this; adds a little interest.

As for what's next on the 'car trails' front... we shall see!

~Flashback Friday - Chaos at Kiwanda~

Pacific City, Oregon

Jan 8th, 2011 - Just over 10 years ago I stood under this arch and watched the waves absolutely pound the sandstone cliffs and rocks. I composed this shot with the top of the frame cutting off the arch because the arch was so thin that I felt having sky above it would only draw the viewers attention up away from the action. I did take some shots with the full arch but they really don't keep the eye where it's supposed to be. I've seen people walk on this arch and it had to be an amazing view looking down the Oregon coast but it wasn't long after I shot this (maybe a couple weeks) that another photographer went to shoot it and it had fallen.

If you still want a massive rush, then by all means stand here and watch the waves pound the rocks (you'll get wet) and take it all in but getting a shot with this arch is no longer possible.

Appreciate what you have in the "now" because it can all change tomorrow.

I hope you all have a great weekend!

A series of 5 "flashbacks"created with Bryce & edited with PaintShop Pro(my new toy!!!)...My daughter is going to see Lynard Skynard & Marshall Tucker. She knows Skynard, but she wanted to familiarize herself with Marshall Tucker. Going thru those songs on YouTube along with a bunch of other good old music, transported me back to the '70's...thus, this flashback series. Hope you enjoy my trip back in time!!!=0)

I've not been making many photos in the past years - most of them are taken during holidays in France - and the hobby is slowly calling again. In the meantime, a picture from 25 March 2021 in Oberhausen :-)

♥2021 is coming. I hope it will be better than 2020. This year was a very difficult year for everyone. I think about what I've been doing these past times. I miss the past very much. I hope it will be a year when we reunite with our loved ones. Happy New Year to all
