grandma shall cook with this flame.

i shall take photo for fame.

There was a huge bonfire near our house this evening...it was like the ones I remember from my youth. The flames were easily 3 storeys high.

No photoshopping like last time, but also no colours, because of no flash.

The daughter dropped out of Math B this year and took another math class. But she hated Math B so much that she asked if she could burn her notes. Of course, Todd obliged.

2 second long exposure, turned out pretty great! Im still getting used to long exposure stuff.

The dark wick arches up out the melting wax, the detail of each braided strand becoming more distinct near the white hot tip that is about to burn away. The bright blues and reds of the flame are a vibrant product of the dark, subdued, yellow wax below.

I took these shots of some friends who are 'burners' at a picnic we went to. It was very cool to see the different instruments they used. Some used whips, fans, staffs, and regular poi balls to get things 'lit up'.

After the children are done, men are next. They then proceed to the structure, swinging the lit sticks into the crowd along the way.

No, seriously. A lot of the men, being extremely drunk, end up flinging the flames into the crowd, hence why it's best to either wear expendable clothing or stand back from the front.

Once they reach the structure, they not only beat against the ropes, but also each other. Aka, drunk spear fighting. It's pretty cool if you're not the one getting poked with flaming sticks, which repeatedly happened to me. I had to duck quite a few times, and then someone actually smacked me in the head with some flames. Luckily I was wearing a hat, but I had three different people dusting me off while telling me I was on fire. Extremely funny now, though quite nerve-wracking at the time. The next day, the coat I was wearing had holes burnt into the hood and sleeves. A small price to pay, I think.
