An image scanned and uploaded 11 years ago which I've tried to improve upon, but without success. So here's the unadulterated original given another run-out......
In the more forgiving landscape east of Woodhead, 1500v DC electrics 76036 and 76032 round the curve at Shorehall Crossing with an eastbound Trans-Pennine fitted freight.
The Manchester, Sheffield, Wath route wasn't one you might typically associate with bucolic surroundings, but this very pleasant spot, complete with a signal cabin, certainly ticked all the right boxes. God's Own Country, some might say.
Sadly the line closed in 1981 as a through route, and the only traffic seen here these days are hikers and riders using the Trans Pennine Trail, which the trackbed became.

The fence that crosses the upper section, appears to fall off into the small pond beyond this shot. The tiny tributary that feeds that pond, is in this shot and contains some interesting components.
Similar to a puzzle piece, the upper bank looks as if it would fit securely into the lower half. It was the play between what fits and what falls into the water that made this shot interesting.

A different angle of a recent post showing a line of derelict Westerns.
I have no idea why those steps are next to Western Guardsman unless someone was safety conscious about getting into a loco the usual way from ground level. Perhaps the grab rails are missing?
1025 is the first of the Westerns to be built from new without head boars clips. Swindon did the same with 1026, 1027 1028 and 1029. Collision damage requiring cab rebuild was done and clips were not fitted. Several Westerns ended up like this but with clips still at the other end. It is possible to identify the A and B cab ends if you can see the side of the Western as there is a panel fitted at only at one end. Needless to say I can never remember which end it is fitted!
