……A metal pot used as a plant pot holder in the garden - probably modern but made to look old? We bought it in a reclaim/antique shop in Mullion in Cornwall a few years ago and as it has a nice bit of rust that fitted the theme for Macro Monday nicely I thought. Always a ponder how to get the best comp' to include most if not all the subject in the frame whilst staying in focus! I did my best!! HMM & have a great week, Alan:-)

An image scanned and uploaded 11 years ago which I've tried to improve upon, but without success. So here's the unadulterated original given another run-out......

In the more forgiving landscape east of Woodhead, 1500v DC electrics 76036 and 76032 round the curve at Shorehall Crossing with an eastbound Trans-Pennine fitted freight.

The Manchester, Sheffield, Wath route wasn't one you might typically associate with bucolic surroundings, but this very pleasant spot, complete with a signal cabin, certainly ticked all the right boxes. God's Own Country, some might say.

Sadly the line closed in 1981 as a through route, and the only traffic seen here these days are hikers and riders using the Trans Pennine Trail, which the trackbed became.

Taken macro 1:1 for the group #MacroMondays theme: #MyClosest

This is as close as I can get to an 8 mm glass bead on a metal ruler (ruler is in mm's). My camera is a compact zoom with built-in lens so requires accessories to get this close when using 1:1 macro. I used Hoya Close-Up II 52 mm filter lenses +1, +2 & +4 combined & fitted to my Canon PowerShot 42 mm lens via a 42-52 mm adapter ring. Photographed outside in bright, natural daylight. The metal ruler has a brushed stainless steel surface and is 20 mm wide. When taking the shot I tried to exclude as much of the ruler as possible leaving just enough to show measurement of bead with a couple of spare mm's here and there.

Compared to the Blackburn Type 'D' from 1912, of which only one was ever built, the Avro 504 was a roaring success, with over 11,000 constructed between 1913 and 1932. The Avro 504 was the most produced aircraft of any type in WW1.

The 'K' model dates from late in WW1 where the type was mainly used as a trainer (note the second seat in front of the pilot), but some were fitted with guns on the top wing, as shown here, and used for home defence. Compared to the sedate performance of the types dating from just a year or two earlier, the Avro 504 sparkled.

The aircraft in the picture is a genuine survivor from 1918 - well over 100 years old and is still very sprightly. A key identification aid for the Avro 504, is the single, central skid, sometimes referred to as a 'toothpick'.

The penultimate picture in my series of very old aircraft, this Avro 504K is owned and flown by the Shuttleworth Collection, based at Old Warden aerodrome near Bedford, England.

The fence that crosses the upper section, appears to fall off into the small pond beyond this shot. The tiny tributary that feeds that pond, is in this shot and contains some interesting components.

Similar to a puzzle piece, the upper bank looks as if it would fit securely into the lower half. It was the play between what fits and what falls into the water that made this shot interesting.
