I shot things that appeared on my screen from Yerushalayim during my weekly Zoom chat with my firstborn son and his delightful family!
The quality is terrible, but the emotions are wonderful!
A pall of fear, and hopelessness, seemed to hang over the house at the end of the road. A house whose walls, forever felt crushed by shadow, whether day, or night. Here it was that violent death, and unthinkable carnage, had spread their vice like noxious gasses, cursing the members of one family, generation, after generation. A curse whose origins lay forgotten, in the dust of time. A curse which inextricably linked every firstborn male in the family to its horrific beginnings. But, a curse, whose shadowy fingers affected every child born to this unfortunate family. The tentacles of that dark, ominous shadow wrapped their smothering fingers around the lives of all. No one could escape the imprecation, uttered through clenched teeth so long ago, that its words held little meaning for those who heard them today. And, there were the shadows. Always the shadows.
Actually, this is just a building on the University of Toronto campus, on a bright, sunny, spring afternoon. Things are never as they seem.

I was still quite tense from adjusting to driving on the LHS and on the snow-covered road. But others in my car were reluctant to swap but prefer to enjoy the sight instead!
After my irritable complains, my 30yr old firstborn finally relented, we swapped drivers and I managed to take this snap from the moving car.
There is hardly any safe place or road shoulder to pull over, and the lighting was quite dim. It was a bit grainy though.

It feels unreal that Spring is finally here, especially after the long grey and at times seemingly eternal winter we have had.
Only a tiny hawthorn leaf but it unfurled and lifted my heart.
My firstborn is celebrating her birthday, and I am reminiscing the first moments of my life as mother :-)

These four baby geese were just born and appeared at our local pond yesterday. They did not stray far from Mom or Dad.
Why has God placed us here? What should we want to accomplish in life? What are our goals, dreams, and ambitions? We must understand the biblical answer to why we are here on earth!
1. We must first know God as the “root drive” and everything else as simply “file folders” beneath him. He is the great and sovereign Father-God creator.
Isaiah 44:6 Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last, and there is no God besides Me.” (NASB)

2. Our lives are therefore lived before an audience of One. Our purpose for living must be to bring glory to God as we serve him. All dreams and goals must reflect this.

• Pray each morning, “Lord, I give this day back to you!” Get started with your focus on him.
• Look back as you end your day. Evaluate, looking for areas that need improvement. What steps should you take to be more honoring to God—in word, attitude, thinking, actions?
• Always include God in the equation for your dreams and goals. What does he want? What will bring him glory?

Redeemer, Redemption.
English words derived from a Latin root meaning “to buy back,” thus meaning the liberation of any possession, object, or person, usually by payment of a ransom. In Greek the root word means “to loose” and so to free. The term is used of freeing from chains, slavery, or prison. In the theological context, the term “redemption” indicates a freeing from the slavery of sin, the ransom or price paid for freedom. This thought is indicated in the Gospels, which speak of Christ who came “to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mt 20:28; Mk 10:45).
Old Testament Words.
For a full understanding of the concept of redemption, it is necessary to look at the OT. There are three different words used in Hebrew, depending on the particular situation, which convey the idea of redemption. The meaning of these redemptive terms rests on legal, social, and religious customs which are foreign to modern culture. An understanding of the culture is needed for an understanding of the terminology and its use.
The first term used for redemption has a legal context. The verb pādāh is used when an animal substitutes (or redeems) a person or another animal. The noun derived from the root means the ransom or price paid. In the Greek language this term is generally translated by the verb luō, which means “to loose.” The noun derived from this term, lutron, is the price paid for loosing or freeing, hence, the ransom.
When a living being, person or animal, requires redemption, the substitution must be made, or price paid, otherwise the being involved is killed (Ex 13:13; 34:20). However, there is evidence that this rule was not always strictly followed (Ex 21:8; Jb 6:23).
The concept of redemption had special significance for the firstborn. The firstborn male, both man and beast, belonged to God. In theory the firstborn was sacrificed to him. This was done in the case of many animals, but the human firstborn and some animals were redeemed (Ex 13:13; 34:20; Nm 18:15, 16). In the redemption of the firstborn son, an animal was substituted, although later a sum of money was paid (Nm 18:16). Unclean animals were redeemed by substitutions of a sacrificial animal or put to death (Ex 13:13; 34:20; Nm 18:15).
A special case was the animal or person promised to the Lord. Such a one was sacrificed without exception. The Lord made no allowance for the redemption of persons or animals so dedicated.
However, in the case of King Saul and his son an exception was made (1 Sm 14:24–46). Saul had placed a curse on anyone eating on the day of a particular battle. When he learned that his son, Jonathan, had (unknowingly) violated his edict, he still ordered him put to death. The people intervened and redeemed Jonathan by substituting an animal sacrifice in his place.
The second term involved is the Hebrew root gā’al, which is used primarily in relation to family rules and obligations, the laws governing family property rights and duties. For example, should a piece of property be lost to a family member, the next-of-kin had both the right and the obligation to redeem this property. This right of redemption protected the family inheritance. The noun derived from this root is equivalent to the English root redemption, and the person who buys back the property is the goel or redeemer.

Zoom, a modern miracle, makes it possible for me to have long weekly talks on Friday evening, erev Shabbat, with my son in Jerusalem, Israel. It's a high point of my week and it makes me very happy.

Shabbat is the holiest day in the Jewish Calendar, aside from Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur. And, it is a delightful party that occurs each and every week. We are so lucky to have Shabbat! It is a great gift from HaShem!!
'Treasure Of Shabbat' was written by my firstborn son, Jonathan. I am very proud of him. It was a labor of love that took decades to complete to his satisfaction.

It is my firstborn's birthday today - Happy Birthday Samantha.
We have been having some beautiful Autumn days with temperatures around 25 C (77F). Our Autumn is almost over - another three weeks and we will be into Winter. It is a relief to have cooler weather after our extreme Summer, but Autumn is so short here in Australia sadly.
This is a bee that I spotted flying around the Ribbon Bush in my garden. I didn't see many during Summer as it is probably too hot even for bees LOL.
This sketch above is almost twenty years old now. Somewhere in that tangle of electrical wires, fluid tubes and tape is my firstborn son. He is just shy of three months old, weighs under seven pounds, and has barely survived a marathon three-hour open-heart surgery.

Finally our baby has arrived! 8 days late & we are delighted to announce his dramatic but safe arrival. Theo Walter Hackney weighing 8lb. Arrived by emergency c-section after 2 days of labour at 2:45 pm on the 8th June. He is just perfect I'm in love with our precious baba. 😍😍😍

This exciting, thrilling, and joyous book was recently published by my firstborn son, Jonathan. Of course, that makes me very happy. I find it wonderful as a Father. In addition, I am amazed that a book of such beauty is such a fabulous tool for revealing to the reader a hidden world of delight and joy. Ever since I was a child, I have enjoyed the opening a book to a random page and experiencing the unexpected. This guide makes that marvelously fun and exciting. I always get new insight into a magical world of pleasure, imagination, and thought. It gives me unexpected revelations into my own psyche and world-view. I never fail to discover something new that surprises and delights me.

I got me a new camera and I'm soooo happy! ;__; So I tried it with the first thing standing next to me: Martin, who's Morten's firstborn <3
40 years ago today I gave birth to my firstborn. Samantha has grown up to be a beautiful young woman and is the busy Mum to four wonderful children and a little angel baby who is watching over us all. We spent the day together and had lunch with some of her friends.
Today my firstborn grandchild turns 18 years old. It doesn't feel like 18 years since we welcomed him into the family. I was struggling with what to buy him to keep as a memento of this special birthday, as the normal presents that we received for our special birthdays didn't seem to fit in with today's lifestyle. My son suggested a printout of the Mills family history, so I had it printed and bound into a lovely book. I also made this photo book by printing out all the family history photos and added them to a black album in which I also wrote lots of quotations about family. I hope he likes it - Happy 18th Birthday Ethan.
The photo is in the book (not on the cover) and is a photo of my mother and father, my brother and me taken many moons ago.
