Its springtime again. That means Sandhill Cranes! I need to finish my story from last year. So this is my solution to speed things along.

As I left off, the firstborn Sandhill colt was enjoying life as an only child.

The nest was very far away.. Glad for the birds, they had their space away from humans. But it made getting photos very difficult.

Thank you to all for your kind comments, invites & faves, much appreciated

And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn.

I did not take this capture of me, I gave my camera to my daughter Katy, and showed her what to do, and this is the result. Which I am very pleased to be holding my Grandson Alfie, and thanking my dear daughter, for not dropping my camera!

Now you can see me, in full-frame of what this Freaked Out photographer, looks like here, thanks to my daughter. I am now nearly 68 years old and well pleased for my daughter Katy and Michael (Son-in-Law soon to be) of their firstborn child, that weighed in at 8 lb 2 ozs at birth.

I did wear a face mask, when holding my Grandson. But my daughter, for this capture, told me, to take it off!

Now be looking forward in the next few months to come, of taking cool captures of Alfie, when he, his more active and moving about for them!

They say I'm a rebel soul

Bad to the bone, always ready to go

Everybody wants to wear the crown

I keep lining 'em up I keep knocking 'em down

I am exactly what they say I am

I stand for everything that they can't stand

I can't help it, I was born this way

But when I'm gone you'll remember my name

I am exactly who they say I am

A firstborn son with absolutely no penchant for falling in line, it was no secret that he was a horrible disappointment to his father, the King. Equally so to every Court Lady who imagined they might have an icicle's chance in Dante's Hell with him. No matter their flirtations, their attempts, their less than veiled interests, not one managed to turn the Prince's head in the way they desired.

The visiting Duke from Denmark, however...

...Let's just say some fairy's tails prefer to get pounded into a very specific happily ever after.

January is the first month of the year, in fact, the firstborn of nature.

The rich blue of the sky, the winter forest is wrapped in snow. And the snow fell on the branches of the sleepy spruces...

Covering them with a white blanket,

And the winter wind, how insufferable it is,

Trying to shake them off wearily...

Winter is a bliss and a delight for some,

To others only blizzards, ice and cold,

The forest has long been waiting for such a snowfall

After all, no matter what you say, and snow is needed there.

Under the snow and cozier and warmer,

Though it is inconvenient to walk on the snow,

And the forest under the snow is cleaner and more familiar,

And the branches of the fir trees are simply incomparable!

This fine relief of Thutmose III probably came from his valley temple. He also constructed a mortuary temple against the cliffs of Deir el-Bahri at Thebes adjacent to that of Hatshepsut, with whom he shared the kingship for part of his reign. It shows the king wearing the khat headcloth with a very menacing coiled uraeus on his brow.

The fragment was found reused in a Ramesside temple on the same site as Thutmose's valley temple.

Thutmose III was the sixth pharaoh of the Eighteenth Dynasty. Officially, Thutmose III ruled Egypt for almost 54 years and his reign is usually dated from 24 April 1479 BC to 11 March 1425 BC, from the age of two and until his death at age fifty-six; however, during the first 22 years of his reign, he was coregent with his stepmother and aunt, Hatshepsut, who was named the pharaoh. While he was shown first on surviving monuments, both were assigned the usual royal names and insignia and neither is given any obvious seniority over the other. Thutmose served as the head of Hatshepsut's armies. During the final two years of his reign, he appointed his son and successor, Amenhotep II, as his junior co-regent. His firstborn son and heir to the throne, Amenemhat, predeceased Thutmose III.

Becoming the sole ruling pharaoh of the kingdom after the deaths of Thutmose II and Hatshepsut, he created the largest empire Egypt had ever seen; no fewer than 17 campaigns were conducted and he conquered lands from the Niya Kingdom in northern Syria to the Fourth Cataract of the Nile in Nubia.

When Thutmose III died, he was buried in the Valley of the Kings, as were the rest of the kings from this period in Egypt.

The Wood Duck is one of the most stunningly pretty of all waterfowl. Males are iridescent chestnut and green, with ornate patterns on nearly every feather; the elegant females have a distinctive profile and delicate white pattern around the eye. These birds live in wooded swamps, where they nest in holes in trees or in nest boxes put up around lake margins. They are one of the few duck species equipped with strong claws that can grip bark and perch on branches.

My grandfather drove a Buick in the mid-1950's that looked a lot like this one. At the time, I was the firstborn and only grandchild in the family, and I was just learning to talk. Whenever my grandfather would drive up in his Buick, swing open the huge door, step out with a grin on his face, and stick out his arms as he walked in my direction, I would immediately return his grin, throw out my arms, point towards the Buick and say "Pokerpack". No one ever knew where Pokerpack came from, but it was my name for my grandfather's big Buick.

Last night, this grandfather was on his way to his grandson's basketball game, and what did I see out of the corner of my eye? Pokerpack. Without hesitation. Pokerpack.

After I made this photograph, I was back in the front seat of my car, loading my camera into my camera bag, and I caught a glance of my face in the mirror. I saw a grandfather. I whispered "Pokerpack" out loud and immediately felt silly because I was the only one in the car. But a heart filled with fond memories of what it means to be a grandfather quickly reminded me that the wheel of life, much like the wheels on these old Buicks, keeps turning round and round, making grandfathers out of the smallest of little boys.

This 1 1/2 storey Regency-style house with rare four cobble stone walls was built for Charles by his father Daniel O’Neail who came to Canada from Ireland in 1830. Mr. O’Neail was the first President of the Paris Agricultural Society and his firstborn, Charles, also served as President in 1870 and in 1880. The O’Neails gave the southwest corner of their property for the building of Keg Lane School in 1868.

In the Ancient Greek religion, Hestia (/ˈhɛstiə, ˈhɛstʃə/; Greek: Ἑστία, "hearth" or "fireside") is the virgin goddess of the hearth, the right ordering of domesticity, the family, the home, and the state. In Greek mythology, she is the eldest daughter and firstborn child of the Titans Cronus and Rhea.

Customarily, in Greek culture, Hestia received the first offering at every sacrifice in the household. In the public domain, the hearth of the prytaneum functioned as her official sanctuary, and, when a new colony was established, a flame from Hestia's public hearth in the mother city would be carried to the new settlement. The goddess Vesta is her Roman equivalent. (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hestia)

Ortygia (/ɔːrˈtɪdʒiə/; Italian: Ortigia; Greek: Ὀρτυγία) is a small island which is the historical centre of the city of Syracuse, Sicily. The island, also known as the Città Vecchia (Old City), contains many historical landmarks. The name originates from the ancient Greek ortyx (ὄρτυξ), which means "Quail".

The Homeric Hymn to Delian Apollo has it that the goddess Leto stopped at Ortygia to give birth to Artemis, the firstborn of her twins. Artemis then helped Leto across the sea to the island of Delos, where Leto gave birth to Apollo. Other ancient sources state that the twins were born in the same place – which was either Delos or Ortygia – but Ortygia, according to Strabo was an old name of Delos. Further, there were perhaps a half-dozen other places called Ortygia, so that the identification is uncertain.

It was also said that Asteria, the sister of Leto, metamorphosed into a quail (Ortyx), threw herself into the sea, and was metamorphosed into the island of Ortygia. Another myth suggested that it was Delos, rather than Ortygia.

Ortygia was the mythological home of Arethusa, a chaste nymph who, while fleeing a river god, was transformed by Artemis into a spring, traversed underground and appeared here, thus providing water for the city. Arethusa and her pursuer, the river god Alpheus, came from Arcadia in Greece.

Ortygia, being an island just off the coast, was easily transformed into a natural fortress with harbors and was big enough that it could hold a significant population in ancient times. Therefore, the history of Ortygia is synonymous with the early history of Syracuse.

The Royal Palace of La Granja de San Ildefonso of 1721 was built under the reign of King Philip V. It is a magnificent example of European palace architecture: a little Versailles. Philip V retired to this place in 1724 when he unexpectedly abdicated to his son Louis, the firstborn of his first marriage to Maria Luisa of Savoy.

The complex is made up of the palace itself and a series of adjoining buildings, which give it a U-shape. King Philip V and his second wife, Isabella of Farnese, are buried here.

From the construction of the palace until the reign of Alfonso XIII, the palace was the summer residence of the Spanish kings.

The morning 7th of February I woke up to see Amsterdam covered in a coat of fresh snow. The snow fell in sudden flurries and gusts and turned the world white and wonderful. With the canals in the city and occasional high winds, there can be a nip in the air, but packing gloves and a scarf should keep you warm enough. There is something very beautiful about Amsterdam in the winter. It snowed for the second time this winter in Amsterdam. Because the temperature was -4 degrees Celsius the snow stayed. The real feel temperature was -11 degrees Celsius cause there was a strong wind and drifting snow. It got more than a few centimeters of snow. The best advice is to stay indoors and turn the stove up a bit. Or of course to go outside to take some nice pictures. The snow is a rare highlight in these February dark days, especially when you have small children. It is quite difficult to come up with something fun in these Covid-19 lock-down days. After a while, sitting indoors becomes quite monotonous for such a toddler. This is a welcome change. The snow also provides a lot of fun for children here in Amsterdam. Snowball fight, make snowmen or go sledding. All fun activities that children do in this beautiful snowy world.

Singelgebied is the name of the second largest red light district in Amsterdam. The Singel is a typical picturesque tree lined Amsterdam canal and you could easily pass through here without even realizing it is a red light district. The windows are mostly occupied by women but it is closed now during the Covid-19 but the red lights are still on. The area is a nice quiet neighbourhood especially during lock-down. Children can now just enjoy sledding. The snow is during the lock-down days an uninhibited winter fun in the streets of Amsterdam. The next days it will keep on snowing. Expected more than 17 cm snow in Amsterdam. Photo taken on the Oude Nieuwstraat just behind the Singelgracht.
