We decided we needed a fire pit in our backyard. My husband built this - - the hole goes about 5 feet deep, surrounded by firebricks on the inside and decorative retaining wall bricks around the outside. I've been roasting marshmallows in my backyard ever since!

The children and I put in this firepit this weekend. We got the bricks

from my mother-in-law and used an old oven rack we found in an alley

for our grill. We used it on Saturday to cook hamburgers and tonight

to cook chicken. Both meals were fabulous. Nothing like cooking over a

real fire.

This gas firepit makes a nice addition to the project.

Whilst hanging out under the covered area we were joined by a group of rambunctious teens who'd walked over about three miles from midtown Aberdeen. They were sweet and rowdy kids, very interested in hearing my theories about school too. :-)

Day 17 - Firepit, the morning after

My new fire pit from home depot. It's so nice for fall evenings.

We plan to burn the rest of our firewood that I am busy splitting in our new fire pit. The old wood burning fireplace in the family room is being converted to gas today! Chris constructed this ring from the old fire brick taken out. I thought it was a great idea!

Once the main structure was stabilised, the central 'K' or 'Pi' was removed.

As the sun rises over Grandfather Mountain it illuminates the firepit atop Big Yellow Mountain. After the sun rose it quickly went behind that large cloud and all the warm light was gone for the morning, I'm glad I made it up there early enough not to miss it.

We got jokes and more jokes.

Spent a pleasant couple of hours at my granddaughter's birthday party, roasting marshmallows, taking photos of firewood, and having a good time.

A friend was over this weekend, and we decided we needed to build a fire pit in my back yard. I wanted to be sure I got at least one shot of myself in here. So I snapped this one as we were dousing the fire.

It was a long day, and I'm still sore from lugging around all of those bricks and stones, and later stuff for the fire.
