We decided we needed a fire pit in our backyard. My husband built this - - the hole goes about 5 feet deep, surrounded by firebricks on the inside and decorative retaining wall bricks around the outside. I've been roasting marshmallows in my backyard ever since!
The children and I put in this firepit this weekend. We got the bricks
from my mother-in-law and used an old oven rack we found in an alley
for our grill. We used it on Saturday to cook hamburgers and tonight
to cook chicken. Both meals were fabulous. Nothing like cooking over a
real fire.
They had really neat looking firepit's at this campground, different from the regular round metal ones.
Whilst hanging out under the covered area we were joined by a group of rambunctious teens who'd walked over about three miles from midtown Aberdeen. They were sweet and rowdy kids, very interested in hearing my theories about school too. :-)
We plan to burn the rest of our firewood that I am busy splitting in our new fire pit. The old wood burning fireplace in the family room is being converted to gas today! Chris constructed this ring from the old fire brick taken out. I thought it was a great idea!

As the sun rises over Grandfather Mountain it illuminates the firepit atop Big Yellow Mountain. After the sun rose it quickly went behind that large cloud and all the warm light was gone for the morning, I'm glad I made it up there early enough not to miss it.

Custom built fire pit w/ built in bench seating and umbrellas. New outdoor pillows have been added. New landscaping and new trees along the property boundary adds a tremendous amount of privacy to this fabolous yard.
Spent a pleasant couple of hours at my granddaughter's birthday party, roasting marshmallows, taking photos of firewood, and having a good time.
A friend was over this weekend, and we decided we needed to build a fire pit in my back yard. I wanted to be sure I got at least one shot of myself in here. So I snapped this one as we were dousing the fire.
It was a long day, and I'm still sore from lugging around all of those bricks and stones, and later stuff for the fire.
