On Sunday evening, there was a fire in my neighborhood. Thankfully, there were no deaths or serious injuries (from what I've heard) but, sadly, someone's home was horrifically damaged.

The ribs on the access panel below the cab have been replaced. The original ones made from strips of plastic were too clunky looking.

True heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others, at whatever cost.

The fireman were really quick...

The fire wasn't so big...

Everything ended well...

Sometimes it doesn't...

Unlike the well known "fireman" who rides around on a big red truck putting out fires, this guy rides around in a big, black steam engine making sure the fire stays nice and hot.

Try this one LARGE and on black- hit your L key and see!

At times humans are just in need. Its okay to hurt and struggle... you are human after all. <3

A small fire at a school in our street, the fire brigade quickly responded and extinguished the flames. I was a little to late to get some good pics of the flames but I liked the concentration of the firemen long after the fire was put out... So I stuck around a little more aswell.

Here's a couple photos for the modellers out there. In the early '90s it was rare to catch SD60Ms in Minneapolis since they were in dedicated coal service. When they'd bring in a coal train that terminated at Northtown (Riverside Plant) the power might need to be turned and the Van Buren St-Harrison St-Minneapolis Jct. Wye. Such was the case on March 1, 1992. I was at the St. Anthony Parkway bridge and shot the light power heading towards Van Buren (previous photo) and returning from there (this photo).

Strasburg Railroad has railroading down to a precise science. Watching the trains come and go out of the station is proof of that. Here, ex-N&W 475 is returning to the station after another 45-minute round trip through the Amish countryside with it's fireman leaning out to get a better view down the tracks. 475 is Strasburg's oldest steam locomotive as it was built back in 1906 by the Baldwin Locomotive Works. The 4-8-0 wheel arrangement aka the "Mastadon" type makes this engine quite unique, as it's the only operating Mastadon-type operating in North America.

The train car makes use of the new buffer/coupling piece and its stud/pin hole, some snot 180 trapping action I might explain later.

My fireman Matt and I 'swapped sides' for the 16.45 departure from Loughborough, so I had the opportunity to fire 'Standard 2' No 78018 on six coaches to Leicester and back. We had plenty of steam and water (but not too much of either) all the way. I'm still up to the job, it would seem. :-)

Matt relaxes in the driver's seat while James from NELPG, who had hitched a ride with us, looks on.

Seen at the Rockville Classic Car Show 2014 in Rockville, Maryland

Pennsylvania Railroad L class Mikado 2-8-2 coal burning steam locomotive # 1365, is seen while preparing to depart with a manifest freight train across bridge, late 1930's. The fireman is seen in his cab window peering ahead. Check out the old convertible, which looks like a Ford to me. The car also had no spare tire, and only a wire rim is mounted on the rear end. If you look ahead of the locomotive to the left you can see one of the B class switcher with a slope back tender working some cars. Gee, with that NYC box car coupled to the tender it represents the unfortunate future for PC. Notice the employee standing against the rail by the NYC box car.

The name of the photographer that captured this image on film is unknown. This photo came from my personal collection of Railroad images, however, this negative came from a friends personal collection.
