Eddie Kurdzeil performed his usual polished display in his big Fairey Firefly. This is the only example of type airworthy in the US
Often mistaken for Net-winged beetle (Lycidae). Note the hard wings do not have network of raised veins.

OMG we were so excited to see all these amazing little lightning bugs :D We spent 30 min just watching them and giggling with delight - No we don't have these amazing creature here in CA only in the Pirates of the Caribbean ride lol
Not all fireflies are nocturnal! Some firefly species are out and about during the day. Instead of using flashes to communicate like nocturnal fireflies, they use chemical pheromones. Check out the feathery antennae on this diurnal firefly. Great for gathering pheromones! Thanks to volunteer Kerry for sharing this photo!
