several antique firetrucks arrived...

Dorset Fire Brigade Land Rover 109"

Taken at the Basingstoke Festival of Transport, 12/05/2013

A side view of this 1955 Dennis F12 Pump Escape, new to Cheshire County Fire Brigade, which became part of Cheshire Fire Brigade in 1974 and would have been based at Audlem. I don't know this vehicle's service history, but I'm assuming it would have been relegated to the training school in the 1960s. I had to wait ages to take this shot because of all the people milling around it. When you want to take a good clear shot of something, no one seems to give a toss!

I reckon that, like all emergency services, a fireman had to detach himself from the job otherwise he'd go loopy. I think it was a case of forget about it first and have a good cry later...especially if it involved children. These days, if they were called out to a fire which involved a child who'd been left home alone (like what happened in the first episode of London's Burning) the crew of a fire engine would go absolutely fucking mental if the parents arrived back.

"Where the fuck have you been?" might be the first question.

West Columbia Fire Department, West Columbia Texas. A lot of unknowns with this one, saw it from the side of the road outside the WCFD station. All I can say is that it's an American LaFrance tower. 1000 century series maybe ? The other photo of this unit shows that it's a Snorkel aerial. If you look at the letters on the boom, there is evidence that at one time, this might have been an industrial apparatus.

My tribute to Pinkjay.

Pinkjay's stream was abundant with inspiration, she takes some awesome flower macros and I really liked her recent B&W street photography. But I instantly knew what I had to tribute as it is pretty much guaranteed that there will be some kind of fireman activity going on in our house at any moment in time.

Today Joseph turned the kitchen table into his fire engine, with Pippa's booster seat the cabin where he (Fireman Fred-Joseph) sat with Fireman Bunny and the rest of the crew in the chairs behind him. He's currently more into Trumpton than Fireman Sam though.

Unfortunately Sam doesn't make a great model. Once I'd finally got him to perch in the engine, he refused point blank to sit straight.

Have a bonfire on one of the hottest days of the year: you're a dick and we'll call the fire brigade on you!

The idiot over the road decided to light a HUGE bonfire in his back garden at 8pm today, huge plumes of smoke, ash raining down everywhere, no sign of life when we rang the bell. The little old lady across the way insisted on ringing the fire brigade, much sirening and lighting later there are firemen spraying water all over the embarrassed fools garden.

what a dick

my bedroom is full of ash

First served with Buckinghamshire Fire Service at Gerrards Cross Fire Station from August 1994.

MAN - Schmitz / Löschfahrzeug

When photographed the appliance was in use as an Emergency Tender in place of the Leyland Daf appliance that is usually based at the station - the station is apparently getting a new ET in August.

We recently had a memorial service for my dad who passed away in December. One of his favorite things was this antique fire engine that he bought many years ago. I got this image of him taking my husband and granddaughter for a ride. Added lyrics from a song by The Thirteenth Floor Elevators.
