I made some more squares because I wanted a little larger quilt. Something that I could use on my lap while watching a movie. I learned that a nice large center square makes a nice cross in the middle of the quilt. I want to make his one again now that I have the pattern down. I quilted this on my home machine, it's the first time I have done this & it was not too bad, I did use a walking foot..I think that helped. When I took a class to learn how to use a long arm quilting machine the woman said that quilting a straight line was the hardest thing to do..it is!! All I did was go from side to side on this piece and several of my lines were not straight across, several had a 20-40 degree angle.

This is the final 12ftx5ft Global Outreach wall. We ditched the logo for simplicity, and decided that the text will be created with 3D raised letters. The black boxes represent cutouts where LCD frames will be inset in the wall. Creative Graphics Services in CA is doing the printing and I can't wait to see the final result.

This was from prom two weekends ago. The girls were very adamant on taking pictures down by the graffiti wall and I was worried about clashing colors but thankfully it all worked out! I like how the girls are spaced out and they are each framed well in the photo. I do not like how the girl in the back has a paler completion even though I tried fixing it. Next time I will be either planning the photo shoot at a better time of day to utilize the suns position better or will work more on editing.
A glowing orb, it's edges shimmering in horizon's haze, descends with galactic inexorability as night falls in the mountains. The sky blazes with the final throes of daylight, and distant rocky crags stand in sharp silouette to it's muted fire. Swallows chirp and call to each other as they settle to their roosts in the towering rock walls above.
In the fading warmth, one will always pause and fall silent to watch the sun's last moments, a revered and brief minute of the day, as man's instinct reflects on times when our ancestors would make their way to their caves of safety with coming night. One feels this imprint in one's heart; trepidation for day's passing; dark night fears creeping.
For us, as surely it was for them, it means a last nod to the day, and the promise of shelter in the mountains, the solace of tallowlight over a cooking stove, and the warmth of goosedown against skin.
This tattoo is probably the most significant of the five I have. My dad, Doug,
was somewhat of an artist - doodling, drawing, designing flyers, woodcarving...
After he was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease) and couldn't
continue bicycling, he began to really get into woodcarving. I was taking sign
language classes at the time and suggested to him to do a piece in the
hand-shape of "I love you". He modeled the piece after his own hand
and came to enter it in a competition at the senior center, placing second in
his division. He passed away in April '07. In April '08, I arranged to
get this tattoo as a memorial to my dad. I brought the tattoo artist a photo of
"The Hand" (as we called it) and he added some detail to the drawing.
I sat for about two hours for him to complete it. I never imagined that his
woodcarving would inspire my tattoo, which would lead people to stop me to see
it or comment on it. Literally my dad always "has my back".
