Letter from Lieutenant Colonel William Nisbet Ponton of the 15th Argyll Light Infantry to Sir Mackenzie Bowell concerning the installation of two 24-pounder cannon at Victoria Park in Belleville, Ontario.
Text: Dear Sir Mackenzie,-
I was very much pleased to receive your letter to-day showing, as usual, your interest in matters concerning us.
I want to keep one cannon at the Drill Shed, mounted, of course. There are three in all and two would be all that would be necessary for the Park. I had to pay the freight on these cannon myself. Probably you could get three carriages by the kindness of the Minister as easily as two. Colonel A. A. Farley indicated to me privately that there might be some available.
Captain Weatherbe, the head of the Engineering Division of the Militia Department, very kindly sent me up detailed drawing of the carriages required for 24 Pounder Guns, which I could send down, if it was desired.
The weight of each Gun is about 2 1/2 tons, the length of each is about 9 feet. They were sent to me in October, 1896, under the direction of Lieutenant Colonel Macpherson of the Stores Department. The Guns are technically described as "Ordnance Guns, S. B., 24 Pr. 50 cwt."
Hoping that you will be able to arrange for the Carriages and assuring you that the Regiment and the whole of the Citizens of Belleville will appreciate your interest in the matter, and will also appreciate the action of the Honorable, the Minister, in the matter, in granting your and our request,
I am,
Yours sincerely,
signed William Nisbet.Ponton, Lt Col.
This NASA computer-generated file image released on August 24, 2011 depicts part of Mars at the boundary between darkness and daylight, with an area including Gale Crater, beginning to catch morning light. The budget proposed February 13, 2012 by US President Barack Obama for fiscal year 2013 would slash $226 million from the US space agency's Mars exploration program, likely axing a planned partnership with Europe. While the overall proposal is to give NASA $17.7 billion, a decrease of 0.3 percent or $59 million less than 2012, the steepest cuts -- a near 39 percent decline -- hit plans for robotic exploration of Mars. The budget did not specifically mention the ExoMars collaboration with the European Space Agency, which was to send an orbiter to the red planet in 2016 followed by a pair of rovers in 2018 ahead of plan to return samples to Earth in the 2020s. The system is still in its infancy, and I am still tweaking it. This is the project file,
temporarily housed in a box as loose files, like an indexcard filing system. Reduced my main project file (buildings and site) to A6, which is small enough to store easily, and large enough to allow for sketches and text. If I want to see more to get a better overview, I can do a spread. I may file this in mini hanging folders(made from old envelopes and skewers), so that the files don't keep slipping down in a half empty box.
I am also still trying to work out the best way to combine the tickler, to-do list, context and project material. This file has flexible to-do lists at the beginning of each section, followed by project backup material like sketches and ideas. Sections with next actions are flagged with red paper strips.

ScavChal June 2013 #13 ~ Files can be found in your toolbox, personal grooming kit or in a filing cabinet, or may even refer to people or items arranged in line one behind another ("marching in file"). For this assignment, you may NOT use electronic files or media (no disks or drives, etc.), and you must make an interesting image themed on "file."
Have a terrific new week, my Flickr friends! Thanks so much for coming by!
