A restored USAF P38 Lightning from WWII flying during the Warbirds demo at the 2025 Abbotsford International Airshow. It flew alongside an F4U Corsair and a P51 Mustang.
Caught this image of the Hawker Hurricane G-HURI (WX-E) lifting off from Duxford's runway. If you look closely at the spinning propeller, you can see a beautiful corkscrew pattern forming in the humid air. The pressure drop around the high-speed blade tips can cause moisture to condense, briefly revealing the propeller's helical tip vortices.
While the sleek Spitfire often steals the spotlight, the Hurricane was the true workhorse of the Battle of Britain, accounting for around 60% of the RAF's fighter victories during the campaign.
After standing around in the early morning rain waiting for the show to start, seeing this made it all worthwhile!

The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt was a World War II-era fighter and ground-attack aircraft, known for its rugged construction, heavy armament, and versatility. One of the largest and most powerful single-engine fighters of the war, it played a key role in both air combat and close air support missions.

A USAF F35 Lightning II performing during the Lightning demo at the 2025 Abbotsford International Airshow. It was an awesome demo, it was cut short however due to technical problems. A warning light came on and the pilot had to land. That said she put on a good show, didn't hold back, and she nearly broke the sound barrier.

The Tamiya kit.
Decals are a combination of the Tamiya kit decal and Techmod 48068. This Techmod decal gave me some trouble--the two large white '155' markings bled during manufacture, and it wasn't evident to me how serious this was until I dipped them in water. The decal that I used on the port side of the model wasn't so bad, but I didn't photograph the starboard side, because the decal on that side was noticeably fuzzy.

A US Navy E/A18G Growler flying during the Growler demo at the 2025 Abbotsford Airshow. It was loud and the pilots didn't hold back. I can still hear the afterburners when I look at these shots.
A46-139 “Phooey”, the flying replica of the Australian CA-13 Boomerang, takes to the skies at the Battle of Britain Airshow in Duxford. First flown in 1991, Phooey was built using original Boomerang parts combined with a T-6 Texan airframe.
Seeing this agile WWII fighter in flight is a thrilling reminder of Australia’s wartime ingenuity and the pilots who flew these remarkable aircraft. A living tribute to the legacy of the Boomerang and the enduring spirit of classic warbirds.
