Quote from Roc Trout:
"Irving originally had belonged to another pilot, name of Dick Hicks, who died in a night field carrier landing practice accident and I more or less inherited him. The parachute riggers had cluged up a khaki jacket and helmet and goggles for Irving and he actually flew at least once in the F7F radar operator's seat and a number of times with me (without the helmet and goggles) while I was instructing night intercept techniques in the Twin Beech SNB-3N . Liked to sleep on the life raft, apparently not interested in the finer point of the technology. We used to deliberately run our tanks dry before switching to a fresh one so we always knew where the fuel was. When the engine would cough he suddenly became wide awake and wanted to be right in my lap. Not everybodythought much of that. Soon as the engines resumed normal operation he would go back to sleep. "

Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth,
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there
I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air...
Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark or even eagle flew --
And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God

Senior Airman Connor Stuart, 157th Expeditionary Fighter Squadron crew chief, jacks up an F-16 Fighting Falcon to change out the tire after landing at an undisclosed location in Southwest Asia, Sept. 13, 2018. The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a compact, multi-role fighter aircraft. It is highly maneuverable and has proven itself in air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack. It can locate targets in all weather conditions and detect low flying aircraft in radar ground clutter. (U.S. Air Force photo by Staff Sgt. Dana J. Cable)
