F35A lightning entering the pattern 3 rd April 2023

New LEGO set for the ever growing collection. Used Cokin tobacco filter (P125) and edited in Lightroom CC.

In the barracks of the Paprihaven Defense Force (PDF) located on Adobe Road, bunkmates Army Sgt Vince Carter, and Airman First Class Derrick Simmons are with Navy Aviation Fuel Handler Greg "Grape" Grapinksi. Recent 'news' in The Juicy Bloodhound has unsettled Vince.

Vince: HEEAAA!!!

KRAKK!!!

Grape: Whoa!! You broke the board and almost hit me, Vinnie!

Vince: Sorry Grape! I'm fired up over this Nigel weasel steppin out with my Helen!*

Derrick: I'm going to skip my first question, which is "Why do you read the Juicy Bloodhound?" and go the next: "Why are you even in the Juicy Bloodhound??" How are you news??

Vince: I'm a minor celebrity.

Derrick: Since when??

Vince: You know, the PSA I did with the space chicks, Rey and Jyn.

Derrick: The Eclipse thing??** HAAHAHA!!

Grape: Man, your Kenpo form is smooth! You gotta try Muy Thai though! That's what I use.

Derrick: Grapinski, Vinnie is infantry. He trains in hand-to-hand all the time. He could take us both out blindfolded. You're an aviation fuel handler. You're a glorified gas station attendant.

Grape: Hey, remember that next time I'm refueling your plane, fly-boy!

Derrick: Yeah, good point. It was a bad joke, bro, sorry.

Vince: HYYAAA!!! Not as sorry as this Nigel rat's gonna be!

Derrick: Vin, you know you can't go and just beat down some ice skater coach.*** Helen already talked to you and said she don't even know the guy!

Vince: I'm pretty sure I heard him at her place before she hung up on me all of a sudden!****

Derrick: Really? Hm. I better check with Kelly and see if she knows the score.

Grape: The score is gonna be a Vince KO in the first round!! HAW!! Say, you guys have time to take a quick picture for me? I want to send a close-up of my boot treads to Beulah.*****

E-3 Simmons: C'mon Vince. You've been moping for a month now.

Sgt Carter: *sigh* Man, I just know there's more I can do.

Simmons: Bro, there's a war brewing right now. There's gonna be plenty for us to do.

Carter: I mean beyond the PDF. I'm dedicated, don't get me wrong, but that taste of stardom with those beautiful ladies, Rey and Jyn.*

Simmons: Vinnie, you gotta let them girls alone. Get them out of your mind. They're space fighters, or whatever. They ain't gonna make time with enlisted men like us.

Carter: I can be a star. I know it!

Simmons: *sigh* Alright. Well, I'm hittin the sack.

Simmons: Is that your suit?

Carter: Whose else suit would it be?

Simmons: Are you gonna wear that??

Carter: Naw! I thought I'd drag it behind me like a livery! Yeah, I'm gonna wear it! That suits gonna be a hit with the dames!

Simmons: Where'd you get that thing?

Carter: Reigny Daze! Jealous cause you ain't got a pinstriper??

Simmons: Man, I'm gonna style in my dress uniform. We'll see who gets the ladies.

Carter: Hey, you think they'll be there?

Simmons: I sure hope the ladies'll be there! I ain't dancin' with you!

First of all, I hope all my Flickr friends are having a great Memorial Day weekend.

Secondly, I am dedicating this post to the memory of my grandfather, Elrid Spinas, who passed away last fall. He was a US Marine who flew a Corsair in WWII. This photo shows my grandfather around the age of 20, on his plane called the "Miss Opal" (Opal was my grandmother).

My grandfather will always be a "larger than life" icon in my mind, and I think these images are a reason why. I can't imagine flying a bomber at the age of 18 in WWII. In fact, when I think about the experiences he must have gone through, it makes my life experiences seem really trivial... and I'm sure they are in comparison.

Elrid marched in the Memorial Day Parade in Ferndale, CA every year until he died. I associate Memorial Day with him, so it was only natural to post in honor of his life and service to our country.

Thanks to all the people who have risked their lives to make the lives of others better.
