As the successor to the F-1 operated by Japan's Air Self-Defense Force, this support fighter was based on the F-16 and developed jointly with Lockheed Martin by the Defense Agency's Technical Research Institute (now the Defense Acquisition Agency) with Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. as the primary contractor. A total of 98 aircraft were produced, including 4 prototypes and 94 mass-produced models. Although its silhouette closely resembles that of the F-16, the F-16 differs markedly from the prototype by enlargement of various parts of the fuselage and changes in materials and structure.

I knew I needed to be on the south side of the bridge for the best light. I then searched around for an hour for a suitable foreground. I liked the lines of the roadway, the counter balance of the boat under the bridge. I'm very happy with the finished product.

This was one of the red arrows that performed over the Goodwood Festival of Speed 2024.
