A learning curve for a novice hobbyist.
I'm sharing a thorough list on how I use Corel PaintShop for my post production.
It's September 6th 2026. Practice makes perfect.
We all get better in time and I'll look back at this later to see the steps I made to progress more!
While I am known for shooting SOOC (Straight Out Of Camera) like 35mm film did, I do process photos sometimes, especially the automotive world.
I typically open PaintShop to Straighten, Crop and Watermark. Usually, since I have the software open at this point, I end up fixing the image more.
However, not all the adjustment and effect tools are used at the same time, every time.
I purchased and downloaded Corel PaintShop Pro 2023 Ultimate 64-bit in late 2025.

I don't think I need to explain what I use two these tools for.

- Clone Brush Tool
I use this tool for hiding things. Mostly for license plates, but really any unwanted items that may draw attention and pull you away from the main subject.

- White Balance Tool
My cameras are on Auto White Balance (AWB) most of the time, so I've saved a custom setting at 6903K.
6903 Kelvin. I have titled it 'Warm Sun'. I use it for almost all light conditions though.

- Hue & Saturation Tool
I use the Vibrancy tool to boost color, but typically at lower saturation values.

- Brightness & Contrast Tool
I never got into the habit of using exposure bracketing or exposure compensation and since I use Auto White Balance a lot, the brightness and contrast tools work great.
I have Linear Mode turned off.

- Fill Light & Clarity Tool

- Gamma Correction Tool
I have Link turned off.

- Levels Tool
Automatic, either levels or color presets.

- Backlighting Tool
I use lower saturation values.

- Fill Flash Tool
Rarely used, typically lower values and only for low light or dark subjects.

- Lens Correction Tool
Automatic, for high f-stop or older lenses.

- Fade Correction Tool
Rarely used, typically for older photos.

- AI Artifact Removal Tool

A newer tool I thought I would never use. Hah!
It fixes compression distortion from lossy algorithms like JPEG.

- Text Tool
A must have for adding watermarks.
I have some cool open source custom fonts I downloaded.
But Microsoft's Sans Serif Collection Arial font looks great. I use it 99% of the time.
A watermark shouldn't pull you away from the subject.
And the keyboard shortcut for the copyright symbol is easy.
While holding down the ALT button, put in 0169.

- Selective Focus Effect
I use this effect for producing images similar to using a Tilt Shift lens while also creating an awesome DOF (depth of field) without having to open and use the DOF tool.

- 3D Effects
I use the Buttonize effect to produce a rectangular zero opacity black bar 16:9 box frame to mimic a wide movie screen, while adding a striking visual effect to draw you into the subject!
And that, my friends, is how I turn an ordinary photo into a extraordinary photo! A novice hobbyist at work indeed.

The crowds tend to come to airshows for the headlining jet teams - Blue Angels, Thunderbirds, Red Arrows, etc. For me, the big draw to the Harrisburg show was the recently repainted Viper Demo Team F-16, sporting the 50th anniversary prototype scheme.
The General Dynamics YF-16 first flew in 1974, with the fighter jet entering service in 1978. It's been around as long as I have, and as a kid I played with many a toy F-16 sporting that bicentennial-inspired paint scheme. To see one flying was a fun nugget of nostalgia, and the aerobatics put on by Capt. Taylor “FEMA” Hiester, the F-16 Viper Demonstration Team commander and pilot, was outstanding.

... is constant vigilance. Two RAF Typhoon interceptors at maximum altitude heading out over the North Sea.
Taken with a Sigma 400m lens with x3 crop in post - toggle Z for closer look and a sense of just how high they were..
I have no idea what model of jet this is, it's the first time I have photographed anything of this sort, taken at RAF Valley

A twin-seat supermaneuverable multi-role fighter jet, the Sukhoi SU-30SM features forward canards and 3D thrust vectoring engines along with a suite of avionics and airframe upgrades. The build contains 3378 pieces with custom tiles for decals on the airframe. It features folding landing gear, moving elevators, detailed twin-cockpits, and many small details to make the jet as close to the real one as possible.
