The Me 262A, a pioneering German jet-powered fighter aircraft of World War II, revolutionized aerial warfare with its unmatched speed and firepower. Designed by Willy Messerschmitt, it boasted twin engines and swept wings, achieving speeds exceeding 500 mph. Despite its late introduction, it left an indelible mark on aviation history.

The Me 262A featured two Junkers Jumo 004 turbojet engines, providing a top speed of over 500 mph (800 km/h) and a range of approximately 652 miles (1,050 km). Armed with four 30mm MK 108 cannons, it could also carry air-to-air rockets or bombs. Its advanced design influenced post-war jet aircraft development.

The first widely used jet fighter for the United States Air Force was the F-86 Sabre. Several versions were produced and they were manufactured under license in other countries for friendly nations. It was the most produced fighter in the Western World with just under ten-thousand of them built.

Roaring overhead during the sunset display, the MiG driver has just engaged reheat and the afterburner flame is starting to spew from the jetpipe. You can take a look inside the afterburner of the Tumanski R-13-300 turbojet engine! What a shape, what a sight, what a sound, what a feeling...

The Lockheed F-80C Shooting Star, introduced in 1948, was the United States' first operational jet fighter. Powered by a General Electric J33 engine, it boasted a top speed of 600 mph and a range of 800 miles. Armed with six 0.50 caliber machine guns, it played a pivotal role during the Korean War.

I'd much rather be kicking back watching the hawks than being scared out of my mind by these guys roaring overhead. A friendly, knowledgeable flickerite turned me onto the fact that these are F-15E Strike Eagles capable of hitting 1,875 MPH while only 'wasting' $41,064 per hour to fly.

He also advised me that NASA owns 2 of these guys which sort of freaked me out, but a little research (hello CoPilot) reveals they use it for testing purposes of high-speed flight, and they're not starting their own air force.
