No apology if you get a Top Gun earworm from my title, I couldn't resist. I just loved the combination of the clouds starting to break, the heat haze, afterburners lit up, the vapour condensing on the wings and that slightest hint of distant sunlight reflecting on the fuselage.
With 10 years of flight experience in the Hornet, Captain Nicolas "Vincent" Rossier delivered an incredible display in challenging conditions. Captured handheld with my Canon 5D Mk III, EF70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens and EF 2x Extender III. If I had been more awake when I set off in the morning I might have remembered to take my monopod. Enjoy!

I normally gravitate towards sunny weather but sometimes I just love the mood in shots like these, capturing the moody, glum atmosphere of the weather. I can almost taste the air.

One of two uploads for a monthly challenge I'm doing with a group of Flickr friends. This month's theme is "looking up".
These were taken at the Melbourne International Airshow, held every two years at Avalon Airport. All eyes were looking up, and cameras pointed skywards, when this US Air Force F-22 Raptor did a high speed fly past with its bomb doors open.
