I've been scraping together a home-made apocalypse/disaster handbook that includes everything from First Aid procedures to a map of the California peninsula (so I can journey south to my parent's by foot if necessary). Yikes!
This page shows a list of edible plants in the wild.
A collection of seven whole years worth of miserable crap out of my head. I don't know why I have held onto it all for so long... when I flick through the pages, it's never a positive experience.
Mostly traumatic. Mostly horrific. Mostly... not very nice.
As we discovered the other week, holding onto these things has ended up with me harbouring deep resentment and hurt – and being unable to let go of some unhappy times. As such, I'm currently in the process of destroying these.
For those that are/were interested in some of the more artistic content (some examples of which can be found here; vauxhall sunday, GET IN LANE, &c.), I'm in the process of getting some prints made on some lovely Giclee Canson Aquarelle Rag if anybody's interested.

Over time, I've been collecting images in a temporary folder.
Not quite photographs, not quite intentions.
More like sketches, drafts, ideas - starting points.
Files meant to disappear, to die.
And yet...
This temporary album has eventually become the largest of all my projects.
Little by little, over the past ten years, it has traced a continuous line - one that, while not really leading anywhere, takes paths worth lingering on.
I found it meaningful to offer these stolen moments - once destined for the trash - a proper setting.
To build a true photographic object, something a little luxurious, maybe even deliberately too beautiful...
During the next weeks, i will publish all 4 volumes of these temporary files.
Volume II of my temporary files opens on a difficult period of my life, during my rehabilitation at the Saint-Yves clinic following a fairly serious health accident (see my series « Heart Passages » published last year)
It ends at work, and in the immediate vicinity of my company’s offices.
(Because yes, I also photograph at work :-) )

More than a year ago I contacted Field Notes for wholesale pricing so that I could start selling them in our stores. Somehow communication broke down and I never received a sample. There are a lot of good reviews out there but without being able to touch and test it I refrained from selling it in our stores on blind faith. Finally I re-established contact and got a pack of 3 notebooks from their wholesale program.
It looks great but honestly I think it is a bit expensive. US$9.95 for a total of 144 pages, comparing to Moleskine's square notebook at US$10.95 for 192 pages. It looks like there is only a US$0.012 price difference per page but look at what else Moleskine put into its notebook: hard cover, bookmark and back pocket. Of course you can't compare Field Notes, as a new brand, with Moleskine which has a huge running production, naturally leads to lower cost per page with extra features. Well, they are both not cheap. So what more Field Notes is offering?
Simply, 3 things I like about Field Notes. The first two has a lot to do with how it looks.
front cover Futura typeface, black ink on Durotone "packing brown wrap" French paper
perfectly cut round corners. If you look closely, many notebooks have ugly round corners
I tested the paper and cover for acidity. Their PH values are nearly 9, which means slightly alkaline. Perhaps they added alkaline buffer to make it last longer intentionally or is it just my imagination? At least it is acid-free.
I prefer roller ball, ink doesn't bleed through Field Notes' pages. I have to use Moleskine's sketch book instead of plain notebook to prevent bleeding, when you count this in, the price per page of Field Notes becomes cheaper.
It fits perfectly on my pocket size Moleskine. Now I clip Field Notes on top of my Moleskine both as a handsome cover and my favorite to-do list
soy-based ink printing is environmental friendly
Did I say 3 things?
Just the alkaline paper plus its durable cover are good enough to fit Field Notes' outspoken "practical applications #30" - Last Will/Testament. Well, on second thought, I think the cover can be more durable and the price can be cheaper :)

Field Notes, in a box from a former toy (which was replaced when a CFL bulb spilled on it). I don't mind a littler mercury myself.

This is a shot from the vault I found after doing some work for my website. I figured I would touch it up real quick and add it to the rest of my Field Notes Changeover series of photos.
Taken at the iconic Moraine Lake in Alberta's Banff National Park.
By far, one of my favorite places to visit in Canada.
