One of the methods of training the fetch command is using two toys in a bait and switch routine. The toys must be identical and something the dog enjoys playing with. Starting with the dog on a leash, hide one of the toys on your person and throw the other a short distance after showing it to your pet. Release the dog from the leash and say "fetch" or whatever cue word you choose. The dog will chase after the toy and, most likely, will pick it up. When the animal starts to return with the first toy, produce the hidden one.
The animal will likely drop the toy they are carrying in favour of the new toy. When this happens, wait for the dog to return to you and be reattached to the leash before throwing the new toy. After throwing the new toy, say "fetch" while releasing the animal to give chase. While your dog is chasing the new toy, run and retrieve the first toy. Repeat this process several times using the fetch command.
After this walk Buddy needed a bath - he was Covered in mud !
When he was dried, his coat was a mass of tight black soft curls. He is so handsome.
I think Poodles are born knowing how to fetch. Sorry you can't see him sit here, but as soon as he brought the ball back, I asked him to and, he did :)) It is pouring rain here- dark and gloomy and is supposed to stay this way for several days. Murphy's law I guess. We would like to be outside enjoying some sunshine.
I was taking some shots of Monck running while Graeme was throwing the kong, I didn't realise I'd got a shot of the airborne Kong. I love the look of determination on Moncks face.

... the ball, at least until he catches up to it.
My dog likes to play fetch. I throw the ball, he chases after it, then seems to think I'll go fetch him.
Giving my old 35mm 1.8g dx a try on my d600, not too shabby on a full frame after lens corrections in lightroom!
A very affordable solution if one is looking into the new 35 1.8G from nikon
